I read the article. Menino and Patrics comments are absurd. There was no "hoax" at all- they were advertising, and were intended to look like cartoon characters that lit up.

A hoax would involve an intent to deceive.

But, these are powerful men and their ignorance and absurdities will cause some creative, talented people to do jail time.

Thanks for the link. I've seen pictures of the boards with the batteries uncovered but once you see them strung up with the batteries wrapped up in black tape, it's a little more difficult to blow it off as nothing at all.
