The U.N. says for us to keep a decent potential support ratio through 2050, we’ve got to let in about 500,000 immigrants a year.

I've got a better idea. Instead becoming a third world country let's have immigration from within. There are a lot of fundamentalist Christians in America who have a lot kids. People like the Amish or Hutterites have about six to nine kids per woman. The Amish have increased their numbers by a factor of thirty in the last 100 years. If they had the land they could expand to any number we want.

Lets figure out ways of nurturing these people before importing foreigners who don't respect American values.

Barnett's ideas are very thought-provoking but unlikely to be fully read and digested by the one-issue-Wandas on FR.

He makes strong points on the necessity of immigration to maintain a nation (both in national defense and economically) that is static or declining in population and for a long-term presence in Iraq and the Middle East.

He calls this "The Long War."

Too clever by half. Apparently he's never heard of a Ponzi scheme. Aging populations are caused by advances in medicine and technology, they can't be cured by immigration for the simple reason that immigrants grow old too, and you'll have to import even more immigrants on an ever increasing curve to cover them. At best you might temporarily increase the "PSR" (a good "PSR", along with a big military, is apparently all he thinks a nation is) but all you are really doing is passing the cost onto future generations. He is basically advocating erasing the border in a vain attempt to shore up social security, trading the nation for Medicare. He's a traitor, pushing the sort of internationalism Freepers abhor when it comes from the socialist left. The capitalist version is worse, you can come back from a socialist economy.

look who conquered the American West for this country. It was a lot of Irishmen, a lot of Chinese, a lot of freed American slaves.
