The hypocrisy of the liberals and the MSM never ceases to amaze me.

We control your showers, faucets and toilets. Now it's time to control your light bulbs.
This is a very disturbing trend!

So how come Texas is back in the Union? If their so-called escape clause was real they still could have told the Feds to take a hike in 1865. Or is this just a wet dream that some neo-Confederates like to cling to?

They can state all they want that the life of the CFL bulb is 8,000 hours. It absolutely isn't in my experience. After several years, I still haven't lost a CFL bulb. I guess YMMV.
Why is there such a push to keep "fixing what isn't broken"?????
Because incandescents are very broken. They get hot and waste a LOT of power.
The millions of illegal intruders from south of the border are using far more power than any change in light bulbs would even put a dent into. Get them out.
But that would mean these nanny-staters would actually have to do something they're supposed to do -- protect the country. They'd rather mandate their little pet peeves onto the masses.

Where do they find these people? I wish I knew.

This is liberal land. Liberals actually are not liberal. They are fascist elitist dictators who want to control every aspect of life.

The amazing thing to me is that, even though you (and probably all FReepers) are against this bill, you implicitly accept the premise that the legislature has the right to involve itself in such matters.

Just bought two to put in a place that we do not spent time in. They were advertised as 3200 Kelvin bulbs and I will tell you I have to question that. Household incandescent are, I believe, even lower than 3100 and is the reason for the warm soft light. Usually the lower wattage in normal household lighting the lower Kelvin. Normal sunlight shining on the earth is up in the tens of thousands, and even above, and in photography the normal Kelvin rating is 5600K (considered white light). Special fluorescence can be purchased for various conditions such as fluorescence for artist using paints. Even some can be purchased for lighting in greenhouses to promote plant growth. I think you mean "lumens." Kelvin is the measure of absolute temperature. 5600 Kelvin would cook some easy bake cookies awful fast.

I suppose the incandescent bulb that has been burning continuously in a Livermore, CA firehouse for more than 100 years will now have to be destroyed.

This is going to sound really shallow but fluorescent lighting, presently found in laundromats and bus stations, is EXTREMELY unflattering light to be seen in.I agree. Two people on a date have better things to do than sit under a light that reveals each person's physical flaws.

I sing with an a cappella singing group. There is NO WAY IN HELL I would put on my stage makeup in green-casting fluorescent lighing.
I hate photographing my kids in their high school sports gym (son is a gymnast and daughter is in poms that perform at high school basketball half-times) because of that gawdawful yellow/orangish mercury lighting.
It's awful too.
I can't imagine Barbra Streisand being happy about being forced to put green-casting fluorescent lighting all over her precious house in Malibu as well.
And what are they going to do? Have border patrol at all the roads that lead into or from nearby states to check cars/trucks for lighting "contraband"? Ye gods!!!!!! These people are INSANE!!!!!!!!

California takes yet another step towards officially becoming Mexiforniastan with this move. Soon, they will officially enter, "the dark ages."

I'm guessing noone who proposes this listens to AM or shortwave radio. Right. Dead on, my friend. Yet another "bzzzzt wrong answer" kind of retort to use at these liberal enviro-idiots.

Do you think they know that a fluorescent bulb has MERCURY in it in order to make it work? Probably not!!!

If you live in a warmer climate, you might have had a better experience with the lifespan of CFL's. I'd be curious to know where you live.

5600 Kelvin would cook some easy bake cookies awful fast. BWAHAHAHA. Yet another reason why I take the time to read FR on a daily basis. The level of humor around here makes it worth it. Thank you for my daily dose of laughter! :-)

There is one fallacy to your argument. The power company will raise rates to offset their loss in income.
During a drought, the water company will say to conserve water. Lets say the community cuts its consumption by 30% which is lessens the affect of the drought. By the September, the water will cite loss of revenue, didn't make as much as they projected and have to raise rates to offset the decrease in water usage.
