GMA: Biden Blows Chance to Stop Bloviating
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

If only Joe Biden had seized the moment with one brilliant burst of brevity, he could have turned his his presidential candidacy announcement on this morning's GMA into a funny, feel-good moment that would have won him untold millions in free coverage. Sadly, the senator from Delaware couldn't resist his proclivity to pontificate.

Diane Sawyer had the scoop: Joe Biden appeared on this morning's Good Morning America to make it official -- he's running for president.

First came the obligatory questions about Iran and Iraq. Diane next tried lure Biden into expanding on his statement that Hillary's nostrums for Iraq would be a "disaster." Biden wouldn't bite: "I have great respect for Hillary Clinton . . . she is fully qualified to be president . . . She is a first-rate person."

Biden similarly declined to rise to Sawyer's bait about Obama's inexperience, responding: "This guy's incredible. He's fresh, he's new, he's got great ideas."

Talk then turned to Biden's Achilles heel: his famed motor mouth. Sawyer: "The Washington Post says your friends have told you that you have to learn to 'put a sock in it' and not talk so much, and that you're taking their recommendation to heart."

Biden gave a 93-word answer in which claimed he was taking his friends' advice to heart, but in the same breath added that "if it takes more than three minutes" to give an answer, he's going to do it.

Imagine if in response to Diane's question, Biden, after a pregnant pause, had let his entire answer be a big, smiling "yup!"

It would have been priceless, and splashed all over the media. But Joe just couldn't "hep" himself. Once again, the victim of his own verbosity.

Ol' Joe only uses words that are penned by others (and without attribution). He is the emptiest of suits.

Biden's ego is so overt - it's almost scary to see someone with such a high regard for his own being.

Scary Scary man - any yet - he serves a purpose.

What? I have no idea...

Honestly... Do you for one second belive Biden could do anything to get the demoncrap nomination? His own party hates him. He is an idiot. Dumber than dirt...

Biden is running to make Hillary look good. He's either aiming for VP, or a cabinet position. Once she beats him, he will lead the pack, talking about how she beat "all these men".

Talk about an arrogant, pompous ASS.

Liberal northeast-corridor maggots like biden, dodd, giuliani, and their ilk, have NO PLACE even THINKING about being elected to the highest office in the land.

It's bad enough any of them have a say in national legislation concerning the entire country and its citizens, we damn sure don't need them as the virtual leader of the free world!

Biden, like Dodd serve only one purpose this election cycle. To ensure that when the ballots are counted for the RAT nominee in Denver, and there is no clear winner, these two will babble on about how Hillary needs to be the party's unifier.

I was getting so frustrated because he was always on every Sunday morning show. Every week it seemed, Joe Biden.

If there is a camera running someplace, you can be rest assured that he or John Kerry are fighting to get in front of it.

Has Joe Biden, ever, once held a job in the dreaded Private Sector? Wasn't he throw out of law school for cheating?

I wish one of these liberal "journalists" would follow up on the hoo ha spouted by these dems. For example, if it were me, I would have said:"Excellent Senator Biden. Can you give me an instance of a "great idea" that Sen. Obama has had?"

Joe Biden, the dumbest man in the US Senate. Revolting and sad that we are going to have to listen to this gas bag. Isn't Hillary punishment enough? The injustice of it all. Excuse me while I puke up a lung.

Sorry for the graphic answer but the entire Dem ensemble has me rooting for Lee Harvey Oswald to make a comeback.
