Bin Laden Relative Killed in Madagascar

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — A brother-in-law of Osama bin Laden, who is wanted in the Philippines for alleged terror financing, was killed in Madagascar in what appeared to be a burglary, the victim's brother said Wednesday.

Jamal Khalifa, who was married to a sister of the al-Qaida leader, was killed when gunmen broke into his house in a Madagascan village on Tuesday, his brother Malek Khalifa said in a phone interview from his home in Jiddah, Saudi Arabia.

Malek, who was distraught when recounting his brother's death, said between 25 and 30 armed men broke into Jamal's house "while he was sleeping," and killed him. "They stole everything — his computer, all of his things," he said.

Malek said he did not have more details because his brother was a Saudi citizen and Saudi Arabia did not have an embassy on the East African island.

He said his main concern was "to collect my brother's body."

He said Jamal was in Madagascar on business, and his wife and family were in Saudi Arabia.

Malek abruptly ended the call with The Associated Press, but was quoted by the Al-Arabiya satellite TV channel as saying that Jamal mined and traded precious stones in Madagascar.

The Philippine government sought Jamal for allegedly financing the Abu Sayyaf, an Islamic militant group, through a charity organization in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

But Jamal reportedly denied this, most recently in a letter that was published Saturday in the Philippine newspaper The Daily Inquirer. "I have never given any money to any person or group, and certainly not to the Abu Sayyaf," according to the letter.

The U.S. named Jamal as an "unindicted co-conspirator" in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing in New York, and arrested him the following year on a visa violation

You throw a stone in a crowd in Riyadh you have a 50% chance of hitting a Bin-Laden relative.

Gotta love those odds.

LOL!! Post of the day.

This guy was a known gem dealer (supposedly). This could have been a burglary by an organized gang looking for a biiiiig payday. A Saudi gem dealer might have an awful lot of loot in his house.

I say we let the thugs keep the stones. All we want is his cell phone, his computer, and any papers he might have had lying about...

Allowing for the normal Rags lie factor, the 2.5 - 3.0 armed men who eliminated this terrorist and obtained his computer for it's intelligence value deserve our thanks.

Thanks guys!

25-30 armed burglars?

HIGHLY doubtful.

But stealing his computer ... makes it sound like an intel operation.

Peace be to him

My condolences to the next of kin for all those that he hand in their death.

Hopefully, they never find the b&e artists, and may they prosper on their work. May they expand their work to other countries.

I heard that some of our guys mugged a suspected terrorist in NYC and while he was unconscious, they planted tracers and stuff on several of the items that he carried, but took his wallet and any other valuables. He reported the crime and just thought he was mugged. But the intel they accumulated from being able to listen in on his "throwaway" cell phone conversations led them to a house in Mexico full of jihadists that got an early visit to Allah, peace be unto him.

May we assume that "stones" is a euphemism for "5,000# cluster bombs"?

"A brother-in-law of Osama bin Laden"

...that's ok. He was always borrowing Osamas tools and never returning them. He still owes Osama $10 from the Super Bowl pool in '97 for god's sake!

Well one thing we know. It wasn't the Russians' work or the Bin Laden relative and everything in the house would have been glowing.

It was a burglary - ok? ~cough~

Stepping back in time:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=mohammed+jamal+khalifa

The U.S. named Jamal as an "unindicted co-conspirator" in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing in New York, and arrested him the following year on a visa violation in San Francisco. But he was deported without standing trial.

Jamie Gorelick was deputy attorney general. She literally -- they had Mohammed Jamal Khalifa, bin Laden’s brother-in-law, was captured in December of 1994 with a Newton PDA, a treasure trove of evidence linking him to the Blind Sheikh in New York and Yousef’s cell in Manila. And Jamie Gorelick effectively pushed him out of country to Jordan, even though her own State Department, the State Department said he's a terrorist, we should investigate him. Not a word of that is in the 9/11 report.

"Back to Bojinka"

The money that funded Operation Bojinka came from Osama bin Laden and Hambali, and from front organizations operated by Mohammed Jamal Khalifa, bin Laden's brother-in-law.
