Tancredo Campaign Email Update (For your perusal)
Email update | January 30, 2007 | Tom Tancredo

Posted on 01/30/2007 7:25:29 PM PST by kc8ukw

Here's the latest news on my campaign to represent you

Sometimes the Truth Makes Waves

Dear Friend of This Campaign,

My presidential bid continues to stir dust in every direction! That's good, I think.

On Thursday, I made a statement sure to offend many of the most powerful people in Washington.

I called for the disbanding of the Black, the Asian Pacific-American, and the Hispanic Congressional Caucuses.

This was a risky decision for me, but I had to tell the truth--even if I lost some friends.

I think it's high time we fought harder for Ronald Reagan's vision of a COLOR-BLIND SOCIETY! A place where people are no longer forbidden to join clubs or attend schools based on the color of their skin.

But isn't that what the Black and Asian and Hispanic Caucuses are? Powerful groups of legislators united by one thing--their ethnicity? Rep. Stephen Cohen (D-Tennessee) recently tried to join the Black Congressional Caucus, but was turned down. He is white.

This is outrageous! In the 21st century, I think we should be past racial tests for political advantage. Don't you agree?

Lots of caucuses in Congress make sense and are needed. The Urban Caucus, the Blue Dog (conservative Democratic) caucus, and my own Immigration Reform Caucus.

And if Congressmen of a particular ethnicity, racial group or national origin want to hang out together, that's great! Go to dinner!

But don't meet behind closed door to make national policies based on ethnicity.

Because of my strong views on this matter, some pundits and liberal bloggers will call me racist.

Those of you who've known me long KNOW that's a lie. Ethnic-based Congressional caucuses should voluntarily disband. Or if they won't disband for the good of the country, Congress should just abolish them. Together we need to get beyond race and towards assimilation and unity.

(Like to make an additional donation? You may give up to $2,100 to the campaign! Click Here to go to my Secure Donation page.)

So how are we doing?

Every week I've the opportunity of doing more national TV, talking on syndicated radio talk show, and generating more and more interest in the press.

It's easy finding audiences to hear my message:

* Secure the borders!
* Return Sanity to Runaway Immigration
* Control spending
* Limit government powers

Monday I returned from a campaign swing to New Hampshire. The weekend before it was Iowa, where we now have a fulltime staff member (and are looking for others).

Thousands of you are writing in, calling with ideas, sending contributions, offering your services as a volunteer (especially needed if you live in the suburban Washingon, D.C. area or in Iowa or in New Hampshire).

Tens of thousands of people have signed the peition asking me to formally declare my candidacy for the nomination. All that's progress.

Resources needed to get to next stage

My friends, we need money. A lot more money. I'm not complaining, believe me. Every single day hundreds of new donors are giving money online or via check to get us further down the road.

You may be one of the generous friends who have already said, "Make my donation monthly!" If so, thank you. You've definitely done all you can already. If some others would like to support me regularly, CLICK HERE to go to the donation page and check "MONTHLY" at the bottom of the page.

I understand that each and every one on this list has donated in January. Again, thank you again!

But I can point out the need. And I can tell you of the urgent need for me to move fast to secure campaign momentum.

We need offices in various primary states. We need campaign workers. There are telephone and postage costs to cover. Frankly, it's a lot!

If you feel led to make another donation, it would be GREATLY appreciated and wisely used.

(Please Click Here to go to my Secure Donation page and make your additional donation.)

Another thing—would you please FORWARD this email to everyone on your list? We really need to get the word out!

Please let me hear from you.

Sincerely, Tom Tancredo

Tom Tancredo offends me because he was too mentally ill to serve as soldier and now he want to be Commander in Chief.

State Treasurer Mike Coffman confirmed Wednesday he walked away from a pro-war rally with Congressman Tom Tancredo because of questions about Tancredo's failure to serve in Vietnam.

Coffman, a former Marine who saw action in the first Persian Gulf conflict more than a decade ago, left the Colorado Capitol stage in what he described as a personal protest...
"I just didn't feel (Tancredo) had the moral authority to send other young people off to war when he was not willing to go himself."

Why? This site exists to make sure as few liberals as possible are elected and seeks donations for that purpose.

So - I just got an email with info that is not so rosey regarding Tancredo. I came here and did a search to see if I could find any reference to the info, and found none. The record of his vote does appear to be accurate:

It would be interesting to see a copy of the e-mail that you received. What organization sent the e-mail?

Rep. Tancredo received a rating of "A" from Gun Owners of America for the 2006 election. Here is a link to its ratings of Colorado candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives: http://www.gunowners.org/vgco06.htm.

Rep. Tancredo was awarded a grade of "A" for the 2006 election by the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Rep. Tancredo is a strong defender of ths second amendment.

Is there a particular candidate for president that you are comfortable with regarding the second amendment?

From a 2nd Amendment point of view, Ron Paul looks pretty good. He's also really good on immigration.

But as far as the email is concerned, I will have to get back on my desktop to copy/paste it into a post here.

In the meantime, I received the email from a pretty radical conservative (many would say a right-winger). He has previously been quite supportive of Tancredo.

It was a forwarded email, though.

it isn't too hard to verify Tancredo's vote - it is public record - and was listed at the linked page.

FWIW

Thanks for your comments.

I do not agree with Rep. Tancredo's vote in 1999 on the mandatory gun show background checks. However, I believe he is an extremely strong proponent of the second amendment. Receiving an "A' from both the NRA and the GOA is a very good indication of that.

Rep. Paul has been an outstading supporter of the second amendment. I believe that one could say the second amendment has no stronger supporter in U.S. House than Rep. Paul.

I do have a disagreement with some of his votes related to immigration, though. Here is a link to a summary of his voting record on immigration issues: http://profiles.numbersusa.com/improfile.php3?DistSend=TX&VIPID=787 . I am particularly troubled by his support on three (3) separate occasions in 1997, 2001 and 2002 for the Section 245(i) amnesty for illegal aliens.

Overall, though, Rep. Paul has a good record on immigration. He is certainly a true conservative on most issues. I admire much of what Rep. Paul has done while serving in the U.S. House of Representatives.

If Rep. Paul were elected president, there would certainly be someone occupying the White House that would make a serious effort to protect our second amendment rights.

In post number 26, I asked the following: "What potential candidate or candidates for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination do you believe would make a good president?".

In post number 30, I posted the following: "Why are you afraid to say what potential canddate or candidates for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination you believe would make a good president?".

What present or former governor, present or fomer mayor, present or former member of the United States House of Representatives or present or former member of the United States Senate that is a potential candidate for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination do you believe would make a good president? The 2008 GOP presidential nominee will come from someone with this background.

I am asking about potential candidates for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination that are running or are seriously considering a run for the presidency, not about you.

You've previously posted that you like Duncan Hunter.

What do you think of Duncan's Hunter's voting record with regard to spending taxpayer dollars?
