Voters looking for clues as to how or, more to the point, whether the Democrats are going to redeem their issue of honesty and integrity on Capitol Hill will be keeping an eye on the growing scandal around the majority leader in the Senate, Harry Reid. He is caught up in a corker of a controversy over a questionable land deal.
One might think that after all the legal fees and energy the Clintons spent defending Whitewater, a top Democratic politician would know better than to get into a complicated, questionable land deal. But the message doesn't seem to have reached Mr. Reid, who is the subject of a fascinating dispatch in Sunday's Los Angeles Times.
The Times' dispatch, from Bullhead City, Ariz., begins, "It's hard to buy undeveloped land in booming northern Arizona for $166 an acre. But now-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid effectively did just that when a longtime friend decided to sell property owned by the employee pension fund that he controlled. In 2002, Reid (D-Nev.) paid $10,000 to a pension fund controlled by Clair Haycock, a Las Vegas lubricants distributor and his friend for 50 years. The payment gave the senator full control of a 160-acre parcel in Bullhead City that Reid and the pension fund had jointly owned.
"Reid's price for the equivalent of 60 acres of undeveloped desert was less than one-tenth of the value the assessor placed on it at the time. Six months after the deal closed, Reid introduced legislation to address the plight of lubricants dealers." And that's not all. The newspaper reports that "since taking full control of the parcel in 2002, Reid has pushed for federal funding for a new bridge over the Colorado River a few miles from his property."

THIS is interesting news. Could be another DemocRAT floor leader going down in flames.
If so, Good Riddance, Dirty Harry!
"Make it so number one."
I am certain that Reid will have nothing to worry about - he'll get off scot-free. He fits in perfectly in the Democrat's "culture of corruption".
Reid is a dirty little bugger..... If he COMMITED SUCH DEEDS AS A REPUBLICAN, I think he'd be in a slammer.
Hes above the law, this King Harry.
Ethis - Shmethics, show me the MONEY
There's also the matter of the bridge that Harry Reid put in the federal transportation bill that's now come under scrutiny...GUESS where that bridge was to be built???? Can you say ACROSS THE ROAD FROM HARRY REID'S acreage? Now, you might want to know why that would be important...that bridge would land right in front of the casinos in Laughlin, NV...one of the main reasons people visit Bullhead City...I betchya Harry was going to sell that land to some developers for millions of dollars! I hope the press doesn't let this one go.
I can't recall the specific details, but a lawyer was on Rush today, and he said this whole thing was illegal.
That's just so not right.

I think I would sue if my pension fund pulled this crap.
Is there any way a lawyer could start the ball rolling?
This one looks pretty stinky at face value. Maybe a class action suit?
There was an endangered tortoise living on that land. He tossed the turtle over board by getting the environmental law changed. As long as that tortoise was protected, the land was WORTHLESS.
Yes, he was going to sell it to a developer - who he is in a partnership with. That's how he got out of putting the scam in his Senate report. He sold the land to himself - sort of.
No friggin' chance. Do you really think the same rules apply to both sides of the aisle. Republicans resign in shame because they possess the capacity for it.
Democrats go baldly forth: "what land deal ?"
The ref's (treasonous BSM) only call fouls on the pubs.
Additionally, our side, lacking in stones or the will to throw them, whimpers away at every opportunity.
Reid will rule, this will go nowhere.
But not as hard as Hillary's cattle deal.
If he were a Republican, he sure as heck would not be the Senate Majority Leader. But the Rats will keep him until he ends up in the slammer. The governor of Nevada is a Republican and makes the appointment if there's a vacancy.
One switch changes the balance of power in the Senate.
Any bets that at least 1/2 of the employees are illegals? (making the entire retirement fund a scam to begin with...)
What? What tortoise? In Bullhead City? I don't know what you're talking about.
That's true legally, but if given enough press (and blogging by conservatives), it could end his career in the Senate.
This must be false, the culture of corruption ended a few weeks ago.
Say it aint so, Harry, say it aint so......
