Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today released documents obtained November 2006 under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) from U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM). The documents concern the participation of NORTHCOM Commander, Admiral Timothy Keating, NORTHCOM Political Advisor Deborah Bolton, and Plans, Policy & Strategy Director Major General Mark Volcheff in a meeting of the North American Forum at the Banff Springs Hotel in Banff, Canada on September 12-14, 2006. A similar request for records concerning forum participation by then-Defense Secretary Rumsfeld and his entourage is still pending with the Pentagon...
...The North American Forum presentations discussed immigration and border enforcement; full economic and energy integration including infrastructure and transportation; a North American investment fund; and common customs and duties. The idea of a carbon tax was raised as a means to combat so-called global warming. References to the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) occur throughout the documents.
The notes for the presentations document the need to overcome popular opposition to North American integration: To what degree does a concept of North America help/hinder solving problems between the three countries?
While a vision is appealing working on the infrastructure might yield more benefit and bring more people on board (evolution by stealth)."...

They are bound and determined to remove all our borders, and make us one with Mexico and Canada.
There need not be a North American Union, just the plain ol' USA.
This just pisses me off on so many levels that I don't know where to begin...

If you build it (infrastructure), they will come (on board) - such a field of dreams.
thanks for bring back the link to that post by Jim Robinson ^5's
been that way for decades :(
I tried to read this crap but I got sick and had to quit. And yet we still have Freepers who say the North American Union is a fantasy.
All the way to the Revolutionary War for Canada, and ideas for the area covered by the United States go all the way to Peru (guessing they were trying to cut off at Brazil, Argentina, and Chile (and smaller countries such as Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay).
There are those that want to make a North American Union a reality. Of that I have no doubt.
There are even a considerable number within our own State Department.
However, just because someone presents something, doesn't mean those attending the meeting agree with it, as can be seen in part by Bolton's notes.
The "North American Union" is both fact and fiction. It is something that some strive for, and that others strive against. It's something that many factions push toward when it benefits them and push against when they feel that is in their best interest.
We need to be vigilant in opposing those who would sacrifice the interests of the United States for some strange "ideal" of a bloated North American government (as a step toward a world government).
However, at the same time, sovereignty isn't something that can be sacrificed by something like negotiating a trade agreement or agreeing to seeking resolution of trade disputes in a forum created under a trade agreement.
Sovereignty can only be sacrificed by giving up the ability to exert it or by refusing to exert it.
The US has by far the most powerful military on earth. We have the power to exert our sovereignty, so it's really a matter of will.
However, those throwing around the word sovereignty usually really just mean that the government isn't doing what they want it to do, not that it's really giving up the ability to act as a sovereign nation.
I get rather upset with people who allege that the sovereignty of the United States is such a fragile thing that we could give it up by agreeing to entering to non-binding trade dispute mediation.
Show a little more pride in your country.
Feel free to criticize members of our government when you feel that they do things that are not in the best interest of our country. However, the United States is a republic where our elected officials represent us. The United States will remain a sovereign nation as long as it's people remain free.
