And now my AAR.

After spending some time at the regular Saturday AM Olney FReep, I arrived at FR's permitted area to wait for the World Can't Wait afternoon march. Except for GunsareOK, the FReepers who attended the FReep at the Navy Memorial were at lunch so we just tossed barbs at the passing moonbats walking towards the Mall.

My favorite barb, aimed at their "Stop the Expansion" sign, was to thank them for asking Iran and Syria to stop their expansion into Iraq. During the march several moonbats passed by and said something after they passed us. My favorite come back at them was, "Hey ball-less, come back and repeat that". No takers. Maybe it was the Marine Corps flag under the American flag that I was holding that kept them walking, or maybe it was my Clint Eastwood cigars that I was smoking.

The other FReepers, Lurkers and just plain old patriotic Americans started to arrive with the signs and props. While the Hanoi Jane effigy was being hung on a tree, VAFlagwaver and a College Republican got a lesson in erecting the MOAB. It was then secured to a chain link fence that was around a small construction site.

The moonbats started their march right on Mary Jane time, 40 minutes late for regular time. The police escorted the front of the march with a lot of pomp-ass. That's when things started to get dicey.

Our group was separated from the march by orange fencing at the curb and at the sidewalk, with a 15 foot grass area between the two rows of fencing. But the moonbats soon started to go around the fencing and up the sidewalk and on the Park grass behind our line. The sidewalk was so crowded with moonbats that one could not walk in a straight line.

But we kept up our chanting, flag waving and sign holding in the middle of them. Note that at this time there were no police in sight. We were on our own. Behind us, GunsareOK was standing guard over our jackets, extra signs and drinks as moonbats walked by. I kept one eye on him while our group chanted on Doctor Raoul's queue.

A guy on a bicycle stopped at GunsareOK's position and I decided it was time to give him some back up. The guy was just looking to banter with GunsareOK, but Guns appreciated the back up. I stayed with him till the march was over. A little bit after I joined GunsareOK, JoyJoyFrom NJ also came over to help stand guard. By this time there was a constant stream of moonbats in the park walking past our rear guard.

While with GunsareOK, a couple came up to us and thanked us for being there. I told them that we had plenty of extra signs and to grab one. He declined, saying his girl friend didn't want him getting involved in what looked like a scene from Animal House.

After several incidents on the sidewalk between FReepers and the moonbats, the police finally showed up. They were very helpful in keeping moonbats away from our area.

After the police started giving us some cover, the guy with the girl friend, he came over, grabbed a sign and went to our front line till everything was over.

Luckily GunsareOK had his danger radar on high alert. He pointed out four guys in the Park with big sticks about 150 feet from us. BELOW LEFT: three of the guys. BELOW RIGHT: The fourth guy taking a breather.

Guns said the guys were pointing towards us and looked like they were planning something. I'm not sure how these guys caught the police officer's eyes, but the police also thought they looked like trouble. BELOW: The police talking to three of them. Eventually the police had them drop the sticks and leave the Park's premises.

Soon after Jesse Jacka$$ and the others holding a banner passed, an officer from another police force came over to cut down Jane "The Traitor" Fonda from the tree. I explained to him that our permit was for effigies. But he didn't like the idea of it being hung on government property. I asked him if I could take it down to save a good length of rope from being cut and he had no problem with that. So down Jane The Traitor came only to be put up on one end on the MOAB. Not quite so visible and poetic, but she never hit terra firma.

And after the march, the police said there was a suspicious package across the street and we needed to quickly move out of the area. I think that was a good way to get everyone quickly out of there without just telling to leave. After all, we were taking our time and talking while we packed up. And as FR rules state, obey the police.

BufordP - That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

[Mr] T

Those guys whose photos you posted, Mr T, are the guys who threatened to shoot Josh (well, there is a second guy who also threatened to shoot Josh) and I have them all on film. That group of guys tried earlier to leave their "peace" march to come down the sidewalk to get Josh, but the coppers stopped them then. So 30 minutes later, the guys came into the park from behind us, and that's where you got your photos. I have them on film there, too - after I alerted the Park Poice officer that they were the guys who threatened to shoot the soldier on crutches.

I watched Vietnam protests and riots on TV news as a kid, and I watched how my older cousins were treated by the radical left back then. I was too young to do anything then. I'm almost too old to do anything now - but until we get some help out on the streets, I'm not going to just stand by and do nothing.

Vietnam II coming to TVs in your home - unless you do something to stop it now.

In-freaking-credible.

Those guys are the ones that told Josh Sparling they were going to come back with a gun and shoot him.

The back up was appreciated. Wish you guys had told me you were going to lunch--I left the Navy Memorial and went directly to capitol hill.

There was a definite need for more police presence at this event.
