great comments. It seems like a lot & in many ways it is BUT when you think of what it could be..well, your note adds some perspective.

Even if the DC group had mustered 500.. well, we would have been sorely overwhelmed. I thought there might be several hundred FReepers from the potential in the Greater DC area & the fact it was a Saturday

thanks .. bookmarked

We need to start emailing and call talk radio shows to get the word out about this rally and what the left is planning on doing

If it makes anyone feel any better, there was apparently a leftist rally in LA on Saturday and I never heard one word about it until I saw some pictures of it on the AP. I don't even know where in LA it was and I live here.

Never mind -- if need be, I will fly back if we have something planned.

If you are taking a cruise ship, just divert it up the Potomac for the day. :-))

I bet Sean Hannity would be more than happy to promote it and be the key speaker.

You'd lose that bet.

Guennie, whenever I go to anything like this I do go to the closest police & look at them sincerly & say, I don't plan to cause trouble, I am here to support our military & government....and may I count on you to protect me?

They usually size up my appearance, signs, flags & give me a warm smile & say, You bet we will.. or something similar.

I did that in spring at Bethesda & Walter Reed.. each time they came by they nodded & eyed me.

I did that at Cleveland also & I truly do believe the police are just not as experienced in this sort of thing as the DC cops are..

Great. I assume at this time Kristinn will be the FR contact for any efforts being planned. So please work with him so no one doubles up on extra work.

But the way the talk shows are, they'll need extra prodding just to mention it.

I'm sad to see that so few people turned out while the NGO's made it look like there was a "spontaneous" rally by people opposed to our troops. The "other side" got what they paid for.

As far as supporting the troops? Americans will come out in droves to help our troops, especially one that has been injured. See HERE for a story how local folks made a local Marine smile on Christmas Eve.

Another thing people have to consider when it comes to the Iraq war is that the president and the Republicans kept "turning the other cheek" to the Democrat juggernaught. The president's "new tone" in Washington was tone deaf. American politics is bloodsport but bloodless, it's always been a hard knuckled in-the-face fight.

When one side silently allows the other (with media help) to slug-mouth it over and over with lies and distortations a couple of things happen. One, some people start to believe the lies. Two, the people that allow themselves to be throttled over and over lose the respect of the people that support them. The bottom line is that the president and the Republicans no longer looked like leaders. After thousands of Americans were killed on 9/11 it was so easy for them to defend themselves if they had done so with one voice.

On top of this George W. Bush has cut the heart out of people like me that would have done anything for him. He has turned a blind eye to the border invasion. His inaction on the border and illegals cheapen his words on the war on terror and also shows that he puts Americans second. Maybe I'm wrong about that but how would I know unless the president communicates to me why I'm wrong? Unfortunately, his communictions skills have become worse and not better. Who did George W. Bush turn out to be? I now who I thought he was and he's not that person.

The president and the Republicans screwed themselves. Worse, they screwed us. Sad sad sad....

At the moment we just need to get people down there .. Best to work on that for now by emailing and calling conservative talking heads

If any talking heads what to talk .. that can be planned later

I'll try to answer all your questions, Kristenn.
First of all, the pro Iraq "stay the course" faction has to have an organization that can effectively muster national support and turn out crowds. Right now, no one is doing this job. Secondly, you have to have big name association with the national group willing to make statements of support. So far, no one has stepped up. You need lots of media publicity for events. The media deliberately ignores or sneers at your efforts.
Finally, it's just human nature that you can turn out a big group by appealing to ersatz radicals who oppose the status quo, as compared to trying to turn out a big crowd to support an existing policy. The only way that that kind of mind set could be reversed is if there were to be another major terrorist attack on US soil.

I can't view the pictures or video via this computer. However, I watched the police "persuade" a group of 4 or 5 young men, behind us, to put down some very long broom-handle type sticks and to disperse. I believe this is the same group that threatened Iraqikurd. At this time, I can't tell if they're the same jerks who threatened Josh.

All it would take to make every left wing, antiwar, Hate America march totally irrelevant, while literally saving hundres of military lives is for Rush Limbaugh to say four words, "I'm going to DC."

All right! How do we get him to do it?

Why not a 'I Support the War on Terror' rally? This would include support for a free and democratic Iraq.

I'm sorry I could make it down there due to timing and logistical problems here, but I now have my own little area to worry about. I just need a large American flag.

I'm glad you're there! I wish I could be, but there's no way I could afford such a trip. I'm really dissappointed our (troop support) showing was so small.

All right! How do we get him to do it?

That's a decision that he has to make. No one can force it. But it is my firm belief that he can save lives and I beg him to do it.

He'll have my complete support. Anything he needs from me to make it happen, I'm there.
