U.S. confirms troops' kidnapping in Iraq (4 GIs Handcuffed And Shot In Head)

Four American soldiers were abducted during a sophisticated sneak attack last week in the Shiite holy city of Karbala, the U.S. military confirmed Friday. It said three were shot to death and a fourth was mortally wounded with a gunshot to the head when they were found in a neighboring province, far from the compound where they were captured.

Two of the four were handcuffed together in the back seat of an SUV near the southern Iraqi town of Mahawil. A third dead soldier was on the ground nearby. The fourth soldier died on the way to the hospital, the military said in a statement issued late Friday that confirmed details reported by The Associated Press earlier.

On Jan. 20, the day of the raid on a security meeting in Karbala, the military said five soldiers were killed repelling the attack.

The brazen assault, 50 miles south of Baghdad, was conducted by nine to 12 militants posing as an American security team, according to two senior U.S. military officials as well as Iraqi officials. They traveled in black GMC Suburban vehicles _ the type used by U.S. government convoys _ had American weapons, wore new U.S. military combat fatigues, and spoke English.

Why yes, as a matter of fact, I do believe it. Can't a girl have a bad day without getting flamed?

[but I have found no evidence of it in what most Americans read or view. ]

IndyMedia is a well established world-wide network that caters to communist / anarchist types.

Think of them as termites in the attic rafters.

I don't personally know anyone that reads stuff that caters to those types. As I said, it's not in the mainstream media, one has to either look for it on purpose, or regularly subscribe to those kinds of publications, to see it.

OK, but as I said, this stuff is not out where regular folks see it, mainly the normal newspaper or tv. One has to actively look for it, to find it.

Or be a member of the military and approached by a hostile anti-war American. Some have been physically attacked and spat upon. You'll see those in the newspapers and tv reports from time to time. Fortunately, it's not at common as during the Viet. War.

I remember it from VietNam, but this is not the same as glee at soldiers dying.

carpet bomb the city they reside in..

I'd go for that... as soon as we determine which city that is. Might be in Iran for all we know at this point.

Congress and the media would have a collective heart attack.

We wish. That would be a Good Thing, don't you think.

Sorry late, I mean Napalm.

We no longer stock it. We've got some other interesting stuff, but not Napalm.

From your first link:

a non-U.S. made rifle

It would be real interesting to find out where the rifle was made, and was it an M-16 clone?

This is remarkably sophisticated. I suspect one or more of them were translators or otherwise were employed by us.

Maybe, but maybe they were Iranians, Persians, not Arabs. There's a slight possibility they were Chechen or Albanian Muslims who look European. Might even have had some Black Muslims from Africa in the mix. We just don't know yet.

Why would Sunnis not kill any Shiites?

To make it appear the Shiites were responsible?

Never trust AP or Reuters at face value. Wait for authorized Official Releases. Anything "unnamed" "annoymous" "unauthorized" or "unverified" is BS until proven.

That goes without saying, but in this case we appear to have confirmation from other more trustworthy sources.

I think it's pretty obvious the Sunnis or Al Qaida in Iraq would be behind this.

Not all that obvious. It could have been Iranians, who are increasingly sticking their big noses in where they don't belong. That can be hard on those noses though.

Wrong.

What's wrong about saying that the people who did this, or supported those who did, being given justice over the matter. I did say "If" you know. If they are from Tehran or Damascus, I'd say the same thing.
