U.S. confirms troops' kidnapping in Iraq (4 GIs Handcuffed And Shot In Head)

Four American soldiers were abducted during a sophisticated sneak attack last week in the Shiite holy city of Karbala, the U.S. military confirmed Friday. It said three were shot to death and a fourth was mortally wounded with a gunshot to the head when they were found in a neighboring province, far from the compound where they were captured.

Two of the four were handcuffed together in the back seat of an SUV near the southern Iraqi town of Mahawil. A third dead soldier was on the ground nearby. The fourth soldier died on the way to the hospital, the military said in a statement issued late Friday that confirmed details reported by The Associated Press earlier.

On Jan. 20, the day of the raid on a security meeting in Karbala, the military said five soldiers were killed repelling the attack.

The brazen assault, 50 miles south of Baghdad, was conducted by nine to 12 militants posing as an American security team, according to two senior U.S. military officials as well as Iraqi officials. They traveled in black GMC Suburban vehicles _ the type used by U.S. government convoys _ had American weapons, wore new U.S. military combat fatigues, and spoke English.

So where is Amnesty International and the bleeding heart crowd? Where are the Abu Ghraib critics? The hand-wringers and Saddam-ites?

Aren't Americans the only ones who engage in these kinds of "outrages?" Although, brutality of this order DOES make a pair of panties on the head look ... well ... rather silly.

If Bush doesnt give us a headline grabbing koranimal killing action soon he's toast. The validity of this story aside. He has to know he's behind the 8 ball giving the American people a much needed victory. Has he sent over more crossing guards or enemy killers? Simple question. Let our soldiers fight!!!

Iran has dispatched 56 diplomats to staff its embassy in Baghdad and consulates in Basra and Karbala. It maintains informal liaison offices in the Kurdish cities of Sulaymaniyah and Irbil, the latter of which was raided Jan. 11 by U.S. troops, who arrested five Iranians. Each day, Iran provides 1,000 tons of cooking gas, about 20 percent of the Iraqi demand, and 2 million liters of kerosene. Iran exports electricity through Iraq's Diyala province and plans to quadruple the amount with new projects, Iraqi officials say.

Also have you noticed that attacks have picked up lately in Basra?

Qassim Abdul-Zahra is a very busy boy. He seems to be the AP's lead reporter on every story in the last to weeks. Either by himself or with another reporter, I've capped his byline from at least a dozen stories this week.

This is the guy who wrote the account of the civilian helicopter crash for AP. He quoted at least four anonymous sources in six paragraphs. I have searched the usual places trying to find out who he is, but he may as well be Jihil Hussein Iraqi police informant for all I've found out about him. It is highly suspicious that this one guy has stories in Canadian Press, LV Sun, Reuters, etc. In one week? I DON'T THINK SO...AP IS PLAYING DIRTY POOL AGAIN.

the Viet Nam retreat was only a little over 30 years ago.

There was NO retreat by U.S. forces in Vietnam. Funds were cut off by the dem rat bas#urds in Congress just like they are trying now.

Everyone and I mean everyone had better start getting behind our CIC and the troops to support their mission and victory. The pillow biters and bed wetters of the Rats, media and naysayers have been warned.

If the people who did this are found to be from the Shiite Holy City of Karbala

I think it's pretty obvious the Sunnis or Al Qaida in Iraq would be behind this. The tipoff would be leaving the bodies in a Shiite neighborhood.

Given Hillary's support for the Black Panthers in the 1960's, she probably has a case for knowing something about guerrilla warfare.

"What am I missing here?

What you are missing is the message, not the results. The killing of four Americans was not the purpose of the action, but a clear message about the planning, logistics, and operations capabilities of this type of asymmetrical action. My best guess is that this was performed by or under the direct supervision of Iranians, not a rag-tag bunch of insurgents.

One thing for sure...Whoever did this had resources, terrific intelligence and a lot of planning skills. Bunch of ways for this attack to go south on them but they covered all the bases. They had to get through at least three security checkpoints and get back out again.

I think the goal here is a wedge strategy. Make sure we don't trust Iraqi security forces and sow doubt and confusion in US ranks. Now every time a US soldier encounters a uniformed Iraqi he will have to wonder " Who is he REALLY working for?"

I just feel terrible sadness and want it to go away. I don't have the determination I used to have as these incidents are purely depressing.

From the DUmmies:

Take that Michelle Malkin - The AP doing what the media is supposed to do: investigative reporting, while the Pentagon lies, lies and lies.

STOP THIS MADDNESS NOW BRING THE TROOPS HOME NOW

Some wondered if was American on American crime/attack?

I don't mean this as a joke but this sounds like a Milo Minderbinder operation

Let's have congressional hearings on the matter and get to the truth

Did they hold this till after the State of the Union address?

Raising the level of brutality or perhaps responding to it.

The Dummies are a wonderful lot, aren't they?
