Abortion Fits GOP Philosophy, Says Giuliani

By Jeff McKay

New York, N.Y. (CNSNews.com) - While the national Republican platform is decidedly pro-life and has been for the past two decades, the GOP mayor of the nation's largest city believes his party's philosophical underpinnings are more in tune with the pro-abortion point of view.

New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said favoring the availability of abortion is "more consistent with the philosophy of the Republican Party."

Giuliani made his eyebrow-raising remarks at an awards luncheon April 6 sponsored by the National Abortion Rights Action League in New York City, a leading abortion group.

Kelli Conlin, the executive director of the New York chapter of NARAL, applauded Giuliani's views. She called the mayor "a great advocate for us," and said it was "unfortunate the leadership of the GOP has moved into a direction where they want to implant government control on the lives of women and on reproductive freedom."

Although some of the state's top Republicans favor the availability of abortion - both Giuliani and Gov. George Pataki are supporters of abortion rights - their views on the issue are not shared by all in the New York GOP.

"Rudy Giuliani is not the poster child for the Republican Party. His values are completely out-of-step with the views of the GOP," said Lori Hougen, spokesperson for the New York chapter of the National Right to Life.

How old is this?

What matters is that Giuliani will never get an abortion, yet you fault him for saying that women, under his version of GOP philosophy, are free to do what they want. The fact is that women, not Giuliani, chose to have abortions sails right over your little head.

Whose to blame for abortion? Women.

Mo1 is NOT a liar, but you're a disruptor.

Calling for an "anti-Rudy team." How juvenile.

How do you get it with Hillary? FWOW, we lost our best current chance when November's election went to the democrats.

You don't! What we need is a true Republican as the nominee, not pro-abortion, pro-homosexual-marriage, pro-gun-control RINO Rudy.

For flame war purposes! Look at the invite to man himself a team.

Liberal Rudy's FR buttboy, areafiftyone, posts dozens of pro-Rudy threads a day and starts each one with a ping to his horde of liberal lovers. This is the first time I've pinged a new anti-Rudy/pro-Conservative ping list and you act like its a bad thing while you've often responded to areafiftyone's pings. So why don't you just shove it.

Bush has done his part by picking two anti-abortion judges for the Supreme Court. We need one more pick for SOTU to overturn Roe v. Wade. How will we get that pick with Guiliani in the White House?"---

Bush has done about everything within a President's power to curb abortion. Pretty much all of the things he's done, with the exception of Roberts and Alito, would be almost instantly reverse under Rudy Giuliani. The Mexico City policy, overseas funding of abortion, NARAL and Planned Parenthood at the public trough, ban on Partial Birth Abortion, public funding of Embryonic Stem Cell research and cloning, and on and on....

There is SO much to lose for the Pro-Life movement with a Rudy victory that it's frightening.

So don't vote for him. I have not picked a candidate yet and I won't until after the first of the candidate debates commence.

How will we get that pick with Guiliani in the White House?

You'll have a better chance then having a Dem in the White House

In the Primaries .. I will vote for who I think is the best candidate to represent conservative values

Though .. Come the General Election .. I will 100% support whoever the Republican candidate is

His position is the same as it was five years ago: 100% pro-abortion rights. The only difference is that today he makes noise about how much he doesn't like abortion. Kind of like, "I believe people have the right to own slaves, but it makes me unhappy when they do."

Thanks for the post, Spiff. Conservatives need to see what this one-trick pony is up to.

After a political lifetime of fellating Planned Parenthood, wannabe Giussolini now realizes he needs social conservatives to make a primary splash............and is cunningly courting them.

Looks like Rudeinsky's taking his cues from Borat---as Borat indicated to Rolling Stone---you can tell those dumb Christians anything and they'll believe it.

Julie-annie is the lapdog of the empire crowd, and the linchpin for the takeover of the Repub party.

"Tell you what, Rudy......GTH out of my party. "

Rudy isn't stupid. He knows he has to move to the right in order to win.

That said, his past statements and other actions (cue the obligatory Rudy drag queen pic) are just that and has little or no significance in 2008.
