Bears fans lacked class during visit by Saints (Whine Alert)
Mercury News ^ | January 24, 2007 | John Ryan

In most NFL observers' minds, the Eagles and Raiders vie for supremacy atop the list of knucklehead fans. So it is with irony that we note the behavior of Chicago Bears die-hards.

Remember when Hurricane Katrina hit? The Saints played their next exhibition game in Oakland, and emotion -- and donations -- flowed. Yeah. Not so much in Chicago. The Biloxi (Miss.) Sun Herald talked with several Saints fans about their experiences at the NFC championship, which included:

• Signs reading ``Bears Finish What Katrina Started'' and ``Ride your boat back to New Orleans, Katrina victims.'' (The newspaper has a picture of the first sign.)

• ``They taunted us from the beginning by throwing yellow-colored snowballs at us. My initial thinking was the snowballs were made out of beer. I hope it was beer because the fans threatened us by saying they were not going to the bathroom.''

Yeah, we know: A few bad apples, yada yada yada. Too bad Mike Ditka wasn't in charge of security.

I hope Looter Guy was able to attend, it would have been like manna from Heaven for him.

At one point during the Fox telecast of the NO-Chicago game, the lower level camera panned the stands. The viewers were greeted by a half-dozen fans flipping them off. I'm no fan of NO - the city should be allowed to sink with no more of our stolen tax money thrown at it - but the lack of class shown by the Chicago fans puts them right down there with Oakland, Philadelphia, and Buffalo as some of the worst in the league. I don't like Manning either but I'm rooting for the Colts due to Chicago's lack of class. (Don't tell me that these were just a "few bad apples". I lived in the Chicago area for a while during the '90s and can tell you those six jerks were probably just the tip of the iceberg.)

I guess it could go either way. My initial thoughts were:

1) What a crass group, making snowballs out of urine.
2) What a crass group, wasting beer like that.

Yeah, we got all the classy ones in Minnesota,

our welfare laws don't require residentcy,

also got alot of spanish speaking seeking too.

Turn over is big though,

when they realize free doesn't mean comfortably warm.

Thank God for global warming. It doesn't snow in Philadelphia anymore.

This is like when the USA visited Mexico for a soccer tournament and the Mexicans started shouting "OSAMA" and "911".

Typical low-lifes, I don't care what people think of NOLA. They have low-lifes there too, they're called politicians, but there were wonderful people who made NOLA a reason to go there before Katrina destroyed it.

Seriously, I'm "deeply saddened" by this behavior.

America has strived to be a model for the world, but our leftists have succeeded in reaching "the lowest common denominator" for public behavior. What is worse is that they celebrate it.

Yellow snow? That's pretty clean compared to the snow I remember from all the winters I spent in Chicago. Grey, brown and black snow is much more common. 1978 was the last time they had white snow there.

I lived in Chicago. My Dad was at Great Lakes. I loved Chicago. It was a great city. For heavens sake, I am sick of people being offended all the time. I guess we must add Katrina to the sacred things which we can not talk about. People are so thin skinned these days.
