As he and his colleagues noted the historic significance of Rep. Nancy Pelosi's presence on the dais as the first woman speaker of the House, Gibson said that he and Stephanopoulos had shared a laugh earlier about whether she and Vice President Cheney would coordinate their outfits. I haven't checked the transcripts from years past, but I'm quite certain Gibson--or any of his colleagues--never joked about Dennis Hastert conferring with Cheney about tie patterns. (And I'll bet Katie Couric had the sense to avoid it, having been the subject of much sartorial scrutiny herself.)
What was worth commenting on, however, was the contrast in blinks per minute between Pelosi and Cheney. While Pelosi clocked a good 25-30 blinks per minute, Cheney barely mustered 3 or 4. If energy conservation is a personal virtue—as he once said so dismissively—Cheney is a saint. The man functions admirably on standby power.

I noticed the blinking and then that mouth thing she kept doing! Was she eating mints or chewing gum? I found myself watching to see if I could catch her putting something in her mouth. (It was useless - I had nightmares last night.)

I've heard that liars tend to blink a lot. I wonder if power hunger might have something to do with this, too.
I wonder if she is taking a medication that dries out mucous membranes.

I mean, really. If you KNOW you're gonna be on camera for the better part of an hour, wouldn't you check your teeth first? Maybe even brush and floss?
I think it was more than nerves. This wasn't her first day on the job.
I honestly think it is a series of nervous habits she's nurtured over the years, and she truly looked to me to be a woman in internal torment. Also, she looked like her mouth was getting ready to blast forth with what was in her head, but she didn't have the mic. And I think that has been part of her crass power grabbing that shows itself in running over her fellow Members of Congress and anyone else who stands between her and a microphone, and between her and the chief source of power. She is a woman in pursuit of power to dominate others. In my mind, that makes her the wrong person to be Madame Speaker. She has already used her power to club the baby seals around her (less powerful MoC).
Just sent this to a friend: "I kept thinking she acts like someone who knows she's got a truckload of shady deals following her and one day she's going to have to hit the brakes hard and the whole load will come crashing down on her, and she's running scared of That Day."

Same here. After reading about it on FR I went back and watched her during the CSPAN replay. She really looked like she was in distress, between eyeblinks and funny mouth movements. Something was going on with her.
