CHENEY CALLS BLITZER QUESTION ON DAUGHTER'S PREGNANCY 'OUT OF LINE' Wed Jan 24 2007 13:41:22 ET

In an interview taped to air for today's 'Situation Room' on CNN, Vice President Cheney responded sharply to anchor Woilf Blitzer's line of questioning regarding the pregancy of Cheney's lesbian daughter:

Blitzer: Your daughter Mary, she's pregnant. All of us are happy. She's going to have a baby. You're going to have another grandchild. Some of the -- some critics, though, are suggesting, for example, a statement from someone representing Focus on the Family:

"Mary Cheney's pregnancy raises the question of what's best for children. Just because it's possible to conceive a child outside of the relationship of a married mother and father, doesn't mean it's best for the child."

Do you want to respond to that?

THE VICE PRESIDENT: No, I don't.

Blitzer: She's obviously a good daughter --

VICE PRESIDENT: I'm delighted -- I'm delighted I'm about to have a sixth grandchild, Wolf, and obviously think the world of both of my daughters and all of my grandchildren. And I think, frankly, you're out of line with that question.

Blitzer: I think all of us appreciate --

VICE PRESIDENT: I think you're out of -- I think you're out of line with that question.

Blitzer: -- your daughter. We like your daughters. Believe me, I'm very, very sympathetic to Liz and to Mary. I like them both. That was just a question that's come up and it's a responsible, fair question.

VICE PRESIDENT: I just fundamentally disagree with your perspective.

Pay attention. Mary Cheney is a public figure and a political gay activist. She's fair game.

My grandfather once told me..."When it comes to arguing with idiologically challenged drunks, ignore them and call a cab for them......"

Good night Homer, at least you're not driving.......

I am sure a lot of questions she got were screened, In fact I dont doubt her staff posing as questioners didnt write the answers before the questions were asked.

Hillary is pretty easy to see through.

I don't see the big deal. Cheney is the VPOTUS, his lesbian daughter is about to have a baby out of wedlock. Answer the questions and move on.

Well, how is this type of question germane to the workings of the body politic? It wasn't a softball question like most of the MSM lob at Democrats and other assorted lefties. It was a question designed solely to embarrass the VP.

You doubtless don't grasp the "big deal", as you so glibly put it. When SNL did a skit on Chelsea, calling her a "babe-in-waiting", Bill & Hillary screamed long and loud that Chelsea was off limits, and so the media obliged. When Al Gore's son ran into difficulties, I don't recall the press seeking to ask Al and Tipper questions designed to elicit answers that would embarrass themselves and their children.

Politicians are public figures, yes, but they also have private lives that deserve a modicum of respect.

The reason you don't see the big deal is because you don't get it - period.

I disagree. I don't believe Wolf Blitzer was out to embarrass Cheney. Many FReepers have become way too sensitive and overreact countless times. This thread is a perfect case in point.

>>>>Politicians are public figures, yes, but they also have private lives that deserve a modicum of respect.

Dick Cheney is an elected official. A public servant. His daughter Mary is a gay political activist and a public figure in her own right. A few questions to Cheney concerning a statement by Focus On Family, over Mary not being in a normal relationship and how that might effct the child, is perfectly fair.

Its not a big deal. Period!

If it was Focus on the Family who was interviewing Cheney I would agree with you. Its wasnt. It was Wolf Blitzer. The question was a continuation of the media offensive against conservatives that started in earnest before the elections and will continue through 08. Wolf thanks you for your help. Its not the question that is the problem here. Its the intent. What do you think Wolf Blitzers intent was?

Honestly. Its a hot topic. Wolf was trying to get a scoop.

This is the internets premier conservative website and I'm in my eighth of posting here. I happen to like Dick Cheney. This isn't about helping Wolf. Its about standing up to emotional rants of chronic whiners and spoiled brats.

I could be wrong but from here it seems like this is something you really wanted Cheney to be asked/confronted on. So much so that youre willing to give WOLF BLITZER the benefit of the doubt. Seriously its Wolf Blitzer. Particularly when you see the video its clear that Wolf knows hes out of line especially when he very self consciously says "this is a responsible question". If this was asked by someone without a history of hostility to conservatives I would be right with you. In conclusion:CNN, Wolf Blitzer.

You are. I was simply surprised by Cheney's thin skin comeback and nothing more. And my first post on this thread said so. I don't see this hostility from Wolf Blitzer you speak of. Since I don't watch him that often, I could be wrong. Then again, I'm not running around in a hypersensitive mode either.

Wow you are blind. Willfully blind on this I suspect. Being concerned about gay activism and opposing the mainstreaming of the gay lifestyle is great but to give CNN the benefit of the doubt instead of Dick Cheney is ridiculous. Im as anti-illegal alien as anybody but I never trusted Lou Dobbs on the issue so when he shouted Hallelujah on the air when the Dems took congress it wasnt a surprise.

I thought I made myself perfectly clear. Obviously you're not paying attention. This had nothing to do with gay activism or the gay lifestyle. It had to do with my surprise at Cheney's thin skin comeback and nothing more. That's what my original post was all about. I always give conservatives the benefit of the doubt. Unless I have first hand knowledge to the contrary.

Your hypersensitivity is showing.

Mary Cheney is a private citizen, with no job in government. Since the vice president has no control over an adult daughter, and because this really is none of Blitzer's business (or ours, for that matter) it is not necessary for the Vice President to answer.

They're all coming out of the woodwork. LOL I disagree with you too. Blitzer asked Cheney questions concerning his daughter Mary Cheney and a statement made by Focus on the Family. Mary Cheney is a political player and a gay activist. She is a public figure. Now go whine to someone who cares.

Must you be insulting? Why is it that you can't accept that someone disagrees with you?

I said nothing in my post that could be construed as whining. I simply expressed my opinion.

As usual, you are here on a thread which is positive for the Bush administration (Cheney standing up to Blitzer) and are making sure it devolves into a flame fest. I am not participating in your game.

Other posters, however, might want to review what threads you show up on and how you seem to hijack them. It is quite illuminating.

Stop playing the victim already. I said, I disagree with you, you said you disagree with me. So what's new about that? Nothing. You do not like criticism of any kind directed at Bush&Company. Well, too bad.

what makes a nobody like you a moral arbiter for Dick Cheney?

NB: Especially relevant for you is the second stanza.
(a note of gratitude to another nobody: E. Dickinson)

I'm nobody! Who are you?
Are you nobody, too?
Then there's a pair of us - don't tell!
They'd advertise - you know!

How dreary to be somebody!
How public like a frog
To tell one's name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!
