Anyone but a Bush or a Clinton

HAVING REFUSED a third term as president, George Washington offered the nation a farewell address in 1796, urging Americans to cherish the Union and to avoid the "baneful effects" of political partisanship. Successors such as Thomas Jefferson warned against the formation of an "unnatural" aristocracy of men who inherited great fortunes and political office.

Both of these warnings have been overlooked in the debate over Hillary Rodham Clinton's 2008 presidential run. But if she secures the Democratic nomination, wins and serves two terms, by 2017 the United States will have been governed by either a Bush or a Clinton for 28 years. That's three decades governed not just by the same two families but much of the same supporting staff. As Dick Cheney is a name familiar to both Bush presidencies (as George H.W. Bush's secretary of Defense and his son's vice president), so too may a Hillary Clinton presidency resuscitate familiar names such as Harold Ickes, Paul Begala and James Carville.

And it might not end there. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, encouraged by Republican leaders and the current president (who said, "I would like to see Jeb run at some point"), has not ruled out a White House bid or a vice presidential slot on the ticket in 2012 or 2016.

If Washington's caustic, partisan atmosphere is to change, the era of Bushes and Clintons needs to end in 2008.

[snip]

Recent polls suggest that a significant body of Americans, perhaps 40%, will not vote for Hillary Clinton under any circumstances — so it is unlikely that she could enter the Oval Office with a strong electoral mandate

It is.

So's another Bush. Too bad, because I like Jeb. But we've had our fill of his family.

Try telling that to President Pantsuit and her fawning fans in the media.

Isnt it sad we cant get a different family in the White House. If Shrillary gets elected it will be 1988-2012 of nothing but Bush and Clintons.

Yep, but sadly the way the Republican field is shapping up and the coming civil war (Rinos vs. All or Nothing Conservatives) in the GOP, it will probably be a Rat that in the new blood.

I believe in the book "Clinton, Bush and the CIA" they layed out a potential 40 year scenario of Bushes and Clinton.

If Hillary wins, we will have had a quarter century of Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton.

Surely, out of 200 million adults, we can find a non-Clinton, non-Bush. We have had enough of the Bush family and Clinton family. Neither of the previous Bush presidents nor Clinton were that outstanding.

I'll toss in anyone named "Dole" into that list.

I agree Jeb has his strong points but it is time for new blood, conservative principled people.

If Hillary is elected in 2008, that will violate at least the spirit, if not the letter, of the 22nd amendment limiting Presidents to two terms, since she already had two terms as "co-president," but the Democrats never liked that amendment (a slap at FDR)...not that they like the rest of the Constitution any better.

Yes, no more from any of those three families.

And after Shrillery it will be Chelsea. You can be sure she's grooming her to take over when neither she nor Bill can run. She's so full of herself that she believes the White House and Air Force One belong to her and anyone else is an enemy and intruder. I doubt she thinks for a minute that she might lose the presidential election. If and when she does (and I certainly hope it happens) they'll have to put her on suicide watch (probably Bill too).

Let's not forget "Kennedy".

Or anyone with whose grandfather was named "Kennedy".
Or their spouses's grandfather.

I propose a law that prevents any sitting senator, congressman, governor, or state assemblyman or senator from seeking a higher political office while sitting in elected office. This would go a long way to preventing an aristocracy and make sure that the congress does something worthwhile. If they wish to get elected to higher office, they would have to do something meaningful in their current office.
