"It has broken the NEAs stranglehold on the education standards of our kids"

So when the Democrats put a president in the Whitehouse, which they will be doing at some time in the future unfortunately, then they will be able to redefine the standards that are used by 'No Child Left Behind'.

And what advocacy group do you think might be helping them to rewrite those standards?

Hmmm, let me guess ...

I don't know if you were on the Dose thread last night when I mentioned that Webb will probably get a big head, after giving that speech, and will think HE should run for POTUS.

So..I am reading that article by Alter...and HE suggests it!!!

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

There was a thread last night...with the text of his speech..but one really had to watch to get the full effect of his obnoxiousness.

At the end of the speech, he said something about how he hoped that Pres. Bush would do things that the dems WANT him to...but if he didn't they would take him there.

He didn't threaten Pres. Bush physically...just threatened to do his job for him, if he didn't cooperate with the DEMS!!!

if you are asking me how I would fund the tax credit for people who pay for their own health care - to level the playing field as you say (which I support).

I'll answer you directly - raise the federal tobbacco and alcohol taxes. That's alot better choice then to open a can of worms and start taxing employer provided benefits.

The abuse as you call it, is none of the government's business. employers are currently restructuring their plans on their own, to share costs with employees through higher co-pays and deductibles. leave them alone.

about the only people left with the "golden" plans, are going to be all government employees, teachers, and what's left of the UAW retirees who are still alive. Leave everyone else, who has coverage, alone.

WHat the hell does that matter? It would just go back to the way it was.

Maybe we should band together and support Republicans so that doesn't happen....ooops, too late.

Maybe we should just leave ALL decision making and standard defining at the local level. Then no one agency or advocacy group can easily gain control of the entire education system.

If a particular city or state wants to have low standards then let them. The market will quickly identify which high school diplomas mean something and which don't.

If we eliminated the Department of Education altogether then that would be more money to close the deficit or return to you and me in the form of lower taxes.

Why Bush had to take an agency that Reagan once threatened to eliminate and turn it into a bureaucratic nightmare is beyond comprehension.

Hello - people have been coming illegally across the border for, oh, the last hundred and fifty years or so.

Murder's been going on since Cain and Able-- shall we ignore murder too?

The only problem is they dont care if they lok shrill. The MSM will cover up for them. As far as obama and hillary cannibalizeing each other. I disagree the msm will fall into hillary's camp and do her dirty work for her. And who is out there on the republican side. I am getting worried about our potential nominees. Who is not only substantial and conservative but also electable.

Why is it classy to be more than minimally polite to scummy people? IMHO it cheapens the honest kindness you extend to good people

Anything short of his gracious comments would have been perceived as bitter. And he IS the better man, so being less than gracious would have been beneath him.

What would you have suggested he said?

It should be a tax credit of a smaller size, not a mere deduction of a larger size. Deductions favor lawyer type plutocrats, who are in the 35% bracket. If should also be contingent on actually having health insurance of some specified minimal level, with some minimum deductible to foster price sensitivity. Maybe this plan has that feature, but Bush didn't mention it. Of course, this plan does not fit into the Dem political plans, so it is DOA.

Now just why did not Bush come up with this while the Pubbies were in control of the Congress, asks the WSJ in today's editorial? Good question! Bush yet again has a case of the slows.

Good question! I don't have the answer. Maybe the law incorporates the conference report, or at least the earmark part, as part of the law, by reference. Or maybe Bush's statement is not totally accurate. Otherwise, I don't know how this deus ex machina legally works. Color me clueless.

Clueless on just THIS matter EV. :)

Address her using her formal title "Madam Speaker" without making a big deal out of it.
