HASTERT TO ENDORSE ROMNEY
Politico ^ | 1/23/07

Posted on 01/23/2007 9:13:47 AM PST by areafiftyone

Sources inside former Gov. Mitt Romney's camp tell The Politico that they've picked up yet another major Washington endorsement: former House Speaker Dennis Hastert. The Illinoisan is set to publicly endorse Romney today.

Romney has cultivated the congressional wing of the GOP in an effort to cast himself as the consensus alternative to Sen. John McCain. Although the former Speaker is now just a rank-and-file member of the House, his support of Romney is a strong indicator of where much of the anti-McCain Republican establishment is headed. Also helpful to Team Mitt, Hastert still retains significant goodwill within the House GOP Conference and will serve as an effective surrogate before members.

Stay tuned for a bit more reporting on Romney's congressional outreach efforts.

"Hastert to Endorse Romney"

So, is this good news for Romney, or bad news?

An endorsement from one of the more invisible Speakers of the House? This is about as exciting as a documentary about paint drying narrated by John Kerry on codiene.

< sigh >

If Romney is the handpicked (handpicked by the beltway insiders) nominee, then let me just hope for ONE thing: That one of the lefty Supremes resigns their post before '08. Then we'll at least have a CHANCE of finally getting a supermajority in the Supreme Court, to at least severely curtail, if not overturn Roe v Wade.

If it's Romney who gets to pick a Supreme, then, since we KNOW he is pro-choice, we certainly will have ZERO chance of getting someone opposed to abortion on the bench.

Yeah, I think the issue of abortion is the most important facing this country. Shoot me.
