Moneyman Soros Dumps Her for Obama (Dumps Hillary for Obama)
NY Daily News ^ | 1/22/07

On the eve of her historic presidential announcement, Hillary Clinton lost the support of liberal big-ticket donor George Soros to the Barack Obama campaign, the Daily News has learned.

Soros' switch was a stunner in the Clinton camp, which had hoped to woo him back amid a flurry of exchanges.

"There were e-mails and conference calls," said one Democrat familiar with the shock that met the Soros defection. A spokesman for Soros stressed that he would support Clinton if she wins the Democratic nomination and noted he supported Obama's 2004 Senate campaign.

Soros' move was the latest sign that Clinton's hold on big-ticket donors is not as strong as many thought. Team Hillary also recently lost Wall Street fund manager James Torrey to the Illinois senator's camp.

Like Soros, Torrey's value goes beyond his own contributions; they are capable of raising millions for Obama.

"Having an abundance of money is one, two and three of what political pundits look at to determine presidential viability," said Scott Levenson, president of the Advance Group, a New York-based Democratic fund-raising firm.

He said Obama poses only a modest threat to Hillary Clinton because her husband's star power and her well-greased fund-raising operation give her an enormous advantage over fellow Democrats, he said.

"One must presume there will be a donor who will give to Barack Obama over Hillary, but the great amount of the money and interest from the Democratic Party will go in the opposite direction," said Levenson.

"He might take from her but this is not competitive. His takes are anomalies, not patterns."

Federal Election Commissioner Michael Toner predicts about $1 billion will be spent this presidential election cycle and he estimates a candidate will need to raise $100 million by the end of the year to be "taken seriously."

During the last presidential primary, Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) raised $234 million and President Bush raised $269 million, but Toner figures 2008 contenders will spend double that.

Hillary's two main fund-raising vehicles, HillPAC, a leadership committee, and Friends of Hillary (FOH), are known for hosting a flurry of swanky soirees throughout the city.

If he had wanted to be President; he should have changed his name for starters. . .but yes; there are some things you cannot change here.

A stupid given name was not what brought Gary Hartpence down.

The name-change I was referencing was 'Barak Hessein Obama'. . .

. . .as to your comment; of course, Gary Hart was not brought down by his name. Now johneffenkerry or 'algore'. . .or even john-Breck-girl; could be another story ;^).

Can only hope the message of 'Hillary The Terrible; or 'Queen' if not- EMPRESS Hillary is heard, loud and 'clear'.

Definitely a possibility she's using him as a distraction. . .

. . .don't think she planned 'O'bama; but knew he was coming; was so was ready to use him, to advantage. . .just as she used him this week; if only as an 'excuse' offered - ad nauseum - by way of MSM as to 'why' Hillary HAD to announce her candidacy late Saturday and thus blowing all other Demrat contenders off TV's Sunday morning programmng. . .

. . .a move she 'had' to make. . .despite the fact that it was too early. Despite her 'gazillion-times-ten' dollars compared to theirs. . .she could not afford, really. . .to give them even smallest moment in the Sunday morning, media sunshine.

(Guess, we needed an excuse here; because it does not fit her image. . .We know Hillary is a fine and caring person; and surely without a 'ruthless' bone in her body.)

As to Hillary's win-strategy; think it is fairly straightforward; (save for the private investigations on all opposition, that is. . .).

. . .no doubt her bottom-line strategy could be summed up:

BY WHATEVER MEANS POSSIBLE

Alternative- we can all make significant impact towards reducing the present vitriol of political discourse.

in other words- dont' take the bait and keep your eyes open.

don't get stuffed into the old dem/gop pigeon holes and help others to get out of theirs.

TOTAL BS! This is a ploy to enhance Obama's camera and face time until his selection as Hillary's VP. Soros said he would support her is she wins the nomination.

Gee, what the American people have always wanted. Someone that can raise lots and lots of money for themselves while stealing more money from the taxpayers. Not
