On the eve of her historic presidential announcement, Hillary Clinton lost the support of liberal big-ticket donor George Soros to the Barack Obama campaign, the Daily News has learned. Soros' switch was a stunner in the Clinton camp, which had hoped to woo him back amid a flurry of exchanges. "There were e-mails and conference calls," said one Democrat familiar with the shock that met the Soros defection. A spokesman for Soros stressed that he would support Clinton if she wins the Democratic nomination and noted he supported Obama's 2004 Senate campaign. Soros' move was the latest sign that Clinton's hold on big-ticket donors is not as strong as many thought. Team Hillary also recently lost Wall Street fund manager James Torrey to the Illinois senator's camp. Like Soros, Torrey's value goes beyond his own contributions; they are capable of raising millions for Obama. "Having an abundance of money is one, two and three of what political pundits look at to determine presidential viability," said Scott Levenson, president of the Advance Group, a New York-based Democratic fund-raising firm. He said Obama poses only a modest threat to Hillary Clinton because her husband's star power and her well-greased fund-raising operation give her an enormous advantage over fellow Democrats, he said. "One must presume there will be a donor who will give to Barack Obama over Hillary, but the great amount of the money and interest from the Democratic Party will go in the opposite direction," said Levenson.
"He might take from her but this is not competitive. His takes are anomalies, not patterns." Federal Election Commissioner Michael Toner predicts about $1 billion will be spent this presidential election cycle and he estimates a candidate will need to raise $100 million by the end of the year to be "taken seriously." During the last presidential primary, Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) raised $234 million and President Bush raised $269 million, but Toner figures 2008 contenders will spend double that. Hillary's two main fund-raising vehicles, HillPAC, a leadership committee, and Friends of Hillary (FOH), are known for hosting a flurry of swanky soirees throughout the city.

Good to see Soros is still pi$$ing away his money.
Obama doesn't stand a chance. He's peaked a year and a half before the primaries, and the more people learn about him the less attractive he'll be. Soros' money won't change Obama's Islamic heritage.
Obama can't even pull in the Black vote. Hillary has that one hands down.
Not to mention those wonderful FBI files she has, they will certainly come in handy!
He'll come crawling back to her feet.
Yes. Soros' money doesn't scare me, and I love to see him waste it.
Let him throw all he wants to Obama and then throw all he wants at Hillary.
In the end, I don't believe the American voting public will elect either of these two to serve as President, and Soros will have helped the economy by pumping more money into it.
I am already getting tired of the 08 election news and it is Jan. 2007. It is getting crazy out there and the Jackass Stampede for 08 it NUTS. I still hope for some UNKNOWNS to take the lead! I am sick of Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton mess. I like Pres. Bush! But I want NEW people NOT same old same old.
This is gonna be really ugly (me smiling a devilish smile).
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA!
This also means that all the Soros-controlled organizations will cut Swillary's funding.
To all the trolls: Please continue to put all your eggs in the basket labeled "Obama For President".

Arkancide?
Now that George fully understands this important life experience, he has no choice but to move his support from Hillary.
Obama is 'hard wired' to the lunatic left now. He has it all... minority, victim, strong islamic connection, ultra left voting record, Oprah love, media lust, and academic intellect. (the whole package)
I hope Osama Obama has bodyguards. This will not make Her Heinous happy.
Ditto. We don't need 28 years of Bush-Clinton-Clinton-Bush-Bush-Clinton-Clinton.
Didn't Soros say he was retiring from Presidential politics?
She has no reason to have Obama's file. He wasn't even a polyp in the colon of Illinois politics during the Clinton years.
Regards, Ivan
he may wind up for a short ride to Fort Marcy Park.
His main street republican puppets took a real beating in the last election.
Just wait -- the "Draft Gore" campaign is right around the corner, and moneybags Soros will be writing the checks.
