Bush prepares for a different State of the Union Speech will focus on broad issues, WH says

"It's not going to be a typical State of the Union address in the sense of going at great length through all the budget items," said spokesman Tony Snow.

In fact, there is much at stake, some experts say.

Snow said Bush will talk about "major issues, including the war on terror, energy, health care, immigration and education."

Gone, apparently, will be detailed pleas for priorities — such as Social Security reform — that were DOA even when Bush's party ran Congress.

A White House aide familiar with the speech but not authorized to speak about it publicly said the biggest news will come on energy and health care. On the latter topic, Bush will offer a plan for getting health insurance to more people.

Think about it, a republican Congress failed to reform social security when it had the chance. In so many ways, they were pathetic.

Hit a home run? He won't. He can't anymore.

I won't watch. We know what he wants to do in Iraq. And I'm for it. But the man has nothing else to say that's of interest to me.

What do you want from him? I'm sick of the constant Bush-bash on FR. If you won't support him whats your alternative?

Your ilk already gave us the Democrat congress.
Promises of extending socialism and sure defeat in Iraq and
no conservative judges.

What a great alternative.

Will SOTU be leaked to the press and opposition so that they can say "nothing new" and then refute (spin) each and every point?

He will propose amnesty for illegals. The speech is DOA with the base. His popularity will sink even lower.

No, as always I worked for the GOP and contributed to GOP candidates last year. On FReep, I constantly went after third-party types and stay-at-home types.

The Bush presidency is over as far as domestic policy is concerned. Except in Iraq, it is unlikely to do anything significant in foreign policy.

I don't want to bash the man. He's been a mix of good and bad. But he's no longer much of a president. His time ended last November 7. We Republicans must now concentrate not on supporting Bush (who doesn't much support our views anymore, on domestic policy), but on finding new leadership for a very poorly led party.

I no longer have time to support Bush. One, he increasingly doesn't support my values. Two, he's impotent. I'd rather look to the future. Bush -- thank God -- is not the future.

He should ask Bill Clinton for advise on what to say in Bush's speech on Tuesday, after all, Bill Clinton is an expert on "broad" issues!

He needs our support now more than ever! He is our only line of defense against an evil force. We cannot let down now and I believe Bush is trying to do the right thing even though sometimes it doesn't seem like it.

I hope he does too, but I really wish he would not get on the global warming band wagon. I am really worried that this is going to bring Al Gore out of hiding and into the Presidential race. He would be the worst President IMHO.

His base is larger than you imagine, he isn't running for president ever again, and thanks to underhanded Dem tricks, the UNAPPEASEABLES, and some GOPer Congresscritters, both Houses are in Dem hands.

"He needs our support now more than ever! He is our only line of defense against an evil force."

You mean the "religion of peace"?

"We cannot let down now and I believe Bush is trying to do the right thing even though sometimes it doesn't seem like it."

How is importing 50 million Democrats ever the "right thing"? Can you explain that one to me?

Perhaps what he considers the "right thing" isn't on every issue?

What would you suggest when our elected Republicans side with the Democrats?

Don't hold your breath. The leaked word is that it will feature a "Bold new plan for Immigration Reform".

Not a hint of the word "illegal" in there, if you'll note.

Need I say more?
