Bush Considering Pardon for Border Agents Convicted of Shooting Mexican Drug Runner
Fox News ^ | January 21, 2007

President Bush promised to review a case for a possible pardon of two former U.S. Border Patrol agents serving time in prison for shooting a Mexican drug runner.

Bush said in an interview with KFOX-TV in El Paso, Texas, Thursday that he would "take a sober look at the case" as it works its way through the appeals system.

"There are standards that need to be met in law enforcement and according to a jury of their peers, these officers violated some standards," Bush said. "On this case, people need to take a tough look at the facts, the evidence a jury looked at, as well as [the] judge. And I will do the same thing."

Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean reported to prison Wednesday to begin serving their sentences for the 2005 non-fatal shooting of Osvaldo Aldrete Davila. Ramos faces 11 years and one day while Compean will serve 12 years. Davila fled to Mexico after he was shot in the buttocks and later admitted he was transporting over 700 pounds of marijuana in the U.S. illegally.

Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., introduced a bill to pardon the agents, joining a growing group of supporters of the men, including Reps. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., and Ted Poe, R-Texas.

I hope Bush does the right thing and, for once, says "No!" to the open borders crowd.

"he would "take a sober look at the case" as it works its way through the appeals system. "
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Didn't Ford pardon Nixon before he was even INDICTED for anything by the House???

Why can't Bush just pardon these two now?

I don't get it.

"take a sober look at the case"

An unfortunate choice of words.

Because those two covered up their actions after shooting an unarmed guy running away that they did not know was a drug dealer.

I bet you he won't pardon them. He doesn't want to take the chance off making the Latino community angry at him.

Why would that be the case? The two Border Patrol agents in question are Latino themselves.

He should be doing a lot more than "considering" a pardon.

I agree, he won't want to offend the Illegal Criminal lobby that apparently has him in their pocket.

I think Bush may give a pardon because this railroading of the Border Agents has become a national scandal and many Republican congressmnen have taken Bush to the woodshed. Just last week on Lou Dobbs' program Bilbrey, Rohrbacher, and Hunter fiercely denounced Bush.

I think they told him that if he expects to get ANY cooperation from Republicans to get what little is left of his agenda passed - he better wise up.

Me too, and you all could call and tell him you think he should too...as my hubby and I did. My hubby is retired law enforcement, and he does NOT think these guys should be in prison. How are we EVER going to get good agents if they are second guessing themselves all the time, while trying to do their jobs???

Please President Bush - you're for the Good Guys! Please do the right thing here. Vote American on this one!!!

The world has been turned upside down. The foreign drug smuggler is sought out and handed immunity and the cops who stopped him are in jail. Something stinks here. Bush needs to pardon these two men and replace the prosecutor with someone who knows which side he's on.

There is always more to the story. A rush to judgement without all the facts wouldn't be prudent.(sorry) I tend to side with the officers myself, but if they indeed are guilty, shouldn't they be required to pay for their own crimes?

He better. His record on the border has been horrible and will destroy the rest of his legacy. Bush will be looked back on as a guy who could have stopped the Hispanicazition of America but didn't. A lot of opportunities have been missed and it may be too late.
