Yet, there are many on FR (Rudy supporters) who believe winning is all that's important ... even if you have to sell your soul.

The paragraph concerning the author's opinion about what is not a conservative anfd what should not be in the GOP is exactly the kind of statement that the left uses to brand Republicans as extremist. If a man won’t risk his own life to secure our national borders, he is NOT a conservative.

The fact that someone doesn't want to risk their life to defend a border means they should not be part of the GOP? Sounds good in theory. Sounds extremist to the general electorate IMO. I'd rather have %70-90 of what I want than %20-30. I'll take the 'bigger tent' and the lesser of two evils.

this place in history

Most all history is political. The doers are not interested in politics, and see history as useless. Blair's doers are doing all right, but not in a way that history would notice.

A big tent is OK alsong as you don't fill the extra space with clowns like Snow, Collins, Hagel, Specter and such.

Salena Zito wrote an interesting column in the Pittsburgh paper on Glenn Beck, who is rapidly becoming a favorite of many FReepers.

In it she quotes him as saying:

"I think the Republicans and the Democrats are both taking us to the same destination -- hell in a handbasket," Beck explained. "One of them is flying on the Concorde, and the other one's taking a very slow steam train, but the destination is the same place."

Here’s the link for Glenn Beck fans:

Boot the RINOs in the Senate now because being in the minority by 1 is no different than being in the minority by 5 with the RINOs there. Specter, Snowe and Collins have never been a real Republicans and have voted more times left than even the center. Hagel is a has-been that once held values of the Party but has sold his soul to the Rats on Iraq.

If you believe in ANY measure of "Gun Control", you are not a conservative!

One that he missed.

I was going to highlight and repost a paragraph from the article, but the entire thing needs repeating! I love it when someone has the balls to tell it like it is. I've grown completely intolerant of liberals and their sycophantic media whores. It's a survival thing ...

I repost these three wonderful, strong and true paragraphs from the article:
No more pretenders in the GOP! Conservative is as conservative does. Talk isn’t just cheap. It’s worthless!

If a man won’t risk his own life to secure our national borders, he is NOT a conservative. If he believes more in the power of the federal government than the free people it is to represent, he is NOT a conservative. If he is not a capitalist, he is NOT a conservative. If he believes in some government issued greater communal good instead of individual liberty and freedom, he is NOT a conservative. If he trusts the UN more than the US, he isn’t very smart and he is NOT a conservative. If he thinks France, Russia, Iran, Syria or North Korea is our friend, he is NOT a conservative. If he is an isolationist in this dangerous world that requires strong American leadership, he is NOT a conservative. If he does not hold life as a sacred gift worthy of protection, he is NOT a conservative. If he prefers imaginary constitutional rights over the written constitutional rights, he is NOT a conservative. If he thinks that marriage is anything less than a God sanctioned union between one man and one woman, he is NOT a conservative. If he is willing to confiscate private earnings, property and resources to grow government for the greater communal good, he is NOT a conservative. If he is willing to send our troops into harms way without full unfettered support and a deep commitment to victory, he is NOT a conservative. If he does not know the difference between legal and illegal immigration and care, then he is NOT a conservative. And if he lacks the spine to confront his enemies, he is NOT a conservative. He’s not even a man!

If he is NOT a conservative, he should NOT be a member of the GOP and he sure as hell shouldn’t be a leader of the GOP! No more pretenders! No more faux conservatives compassionate towards the enemy on the left.

And challenge my fellow FReepers to post names of politicians than can successfully run this gauntlet.

If we keep accepting the lesser of evils, we will slide to the extreme left a bit more slowly than if we heartily embraced it. But we will become a socialist workers paradise.

If you want a "slightly less left" USA, then by all means choose a Republican who acts like a Democrat rather than a Democrat who acts like a socialist.

I'm going to support a conservative.

If he prefers imaginary constitutional rights over the written constitutional rights, he is NOT a conservative.

Good article overall. I take one exception and I'm sure it's just a matter of language. Our natural rights come from God... so said our founding fathers. The sentence above suggests that they are found in the text of the Constitution. I would suggest the following rewrite to this sentence:

If he prefers the penumbras of the Constitution to its plain language and judicial rewrite to the representative political process, he is NOT a conservative.

Excellent post! Far too many RINOS abandon basic fundamental conservative beliefs and values to win the immediate battle, all the time unaware that they are losing the war a degree at a time. If the GOP doesn't do an about face quickly, I fear history will come to record it as the 21st century Whig Party.
