Is there some reason I should believe that we need more people?
If you want somebody to pay for your entitlement programs you do. The cradle to grave entitlement morass has created a pay as you system that will collapse without workers to feed it. Beyond that, there is a vitality to youth that is needed in a society. Older generation instinctively understood this and large families were a blessing. Just another case of Natural Law being stood on its head.
Do you not have some love and service to spread around?
Sorry if you don't.
Are you married?
One is the main purpose of marriage -- the sacred unity of a man and a woman and pro-creation.
Why not have more people?
And not just the Hispanics or Muslims, mind you.....is that a good enough reason for you? LOL!
How about survival? In case you haven't noticed, there are a lot of mean guys out there who want to kill us.
I agree with you. Considering the quality of most humans I have the misfortune of interacting with everyday I am glad that they didn't breed more of their ilk. Spend one afternoon in the mall and tell me what I am missing.
"Is there some reason I should believe that we need more people?"
Yes - there are several reasons. Here are three:
First, it will maintain our culture and heritage. We have much to be proud of here in the US. It must me maintained. We've helped save the world a couple of times. We will need to again.
Second, there are not enough young people to maintain our current system of entitlement programs in the US. The ratio of workers to retirees has shifted greatly.
Third, more people makes us all wealthier, not poorer. More population in a socialist country (China) makes them poorer, but that is not so in a capitalistic system. Just the opposite in fact.
Every business needs more customers, Free Republic needs more FReepers, the Tennessee Vols need a steady stream of new players (and new fans), every mover needs more shakers (and the shakers need more movers), every elderly person needs more helpers, and every family needs more laughter. Our nation could use some more joie de vivre.
Even the environmental movement needs more environmentalists.
No, of course it's not just a matter of quantity. Married people who are generous and intelligent deserve a toast, a hurrah and a tip o' the hat for having and raising the next generation, and raising them well. We all need these kids or we will die old, abandoned, lonely, depleted and destitute.
Kids --- well-raised kids ---are needed for the glory of God, for our pride and joy, and to replenish the earth.
Just think. That aborted child might just have been the person who would pray for your soul to get into heaven?
Perhaps one could ask, "Why do we need any people". Declining populations are certainly not a good to be sought. A stable population for economic reasons is not even a good.
