TIME FOR A REVOLUTION
January 21, 2007 | John C. Dowell

Posted on 01/21/2007 4:36:07 AM PST by Semper

It is becoming painfully obvious and disturbing that our government is not functioning as it was intended. It is taking too much of our money and not doing nearly what it should be doing to keep us safe and free. It is time for another revolution to put us back on track – not a conventionally waged revolution – no one should be killed, at least not in a literal sense. Nothing should be destroyed except wrong ideas and wrongful practices. It should be a political revolution – with a new political party and a new kind of candidate.

We could officially declare the establishment of the FREE REPUBLIC Party – the first internet conceived and based political party. We could start at the top , the presidency. Let the two antiquated parties fight over congress – for now. We can have an internet primary and an internet compaign complete with debates, that is what we do after all. Our candidate would become well known when the media figures out the entertainment value in something like this. And, at the least, Jim would be recognized for the valuable contribution he has made to this country by the establishment of Free Republic.

There is much more to this idea but I am not going to get into those details at this time. I want to see what fellow freepers think about this idea. I am writing this on a plane coming back from a tour in a remote area of Afghanistan. I have been somewhat out of touch for several months so I will need more input before more specific details of this idea are offered. And, I might be a little out of the loop until established back in the states. I will be debriefing in the Washington DC area for the first part of the week and then traveling back home to California; but whatever, I hope this idea holds some value to Freepers.

And of course I would like to be a candidate for the Freeper primary for the Presidency of this great country. I know what a long shot this is but I would love the battle involved – I am a warrior after all. And please do not jump to conclusions regarding my positions on the relevant issues – war, abortion, taxes, imigration, etc. - I am still open to influence on these matters. But I know from first hand experience that we are not winning the war on terror. We need a Commander-in-Chief who knows more about war than the current president and those who appear to be possible candidates for his job. I will be happy to confront this and all other issues in freeper style if that turns out to be what is desired. For an election the ideas are not as important as the qualifications - for doing the job well, ideas are what counts. We need to consider both.

I truly believe we will get no where unless we begin a revolution against the press

The press is one of our greatest institutions (granted it has not lived up to that recently) but the solution is to get them on our side - to win the battle of information and ideas. The mind set of destroying what we don't like will not get it done. The battle is to win them to our side. What is our side? Truth, freedom, courage, results, etc.

Because we are relatively a little late you want to give up? We can't change the past but we sure can shape the future.

Perhaps the time has come.

I sometimes get that feeling myself.

Eliminate all aspects of PC

For PC, one should study Herbert Marcuse and the Frankfurt School.

IV. Herbert Marcuse, 1898-1979
A. Bourgeois Capitalist civilization must be overthrown by discrediting existing beliefs and replacing them with revolutionary or proto-revolutionary beliefs.
B. Founding Father of Political Correctness.
1. "Free Expression" is actually repressive, because it permits the bourgeois capitalists and other counter-revolutionary or anti-revolutionary individuals and groups to express their beliefs and values - values that must be overthrown.
2. Advocates "the withdrawal of toleration of speech and assembly" for conservative or Christian individuals and groups.
a. Denounce them as hate groups, atavistic, fascist, or intolerant.
b. Denounce conservative or Christian speech as hate speech.
d. Do not allow colleges or universities to become "forums" for politically incorrect speech.
3. Advocates "Liberating Tolerance."
a. "intolerance against movements from the Right, and toleration of movements from the Left."
b. "new and rigid restrictions on teaching and practices in the educational institution" to indoctrinate students "progressive" values.
c. Speech Codes on campuses.
d. Reject the values of Western Civilization as "regressive."
e. Reject the "Western Canon" of literature as "regressive."
f. Promote Marxism as "progressive."
g. Denounce and discredit those who resist this "progressive" agenda as "reactionary" or "fascist" "racist" or "the extreme right" etc.

Mixing "morality & ethics" with the power of government is a recipe for disaster...

In my training as a Marine Officer, morality and ethics were a key part of good leadership. I agree that it is an individual responsibility to figure out what is right and wrong. The better you can do that, the better leader you may become (good leadership requires many elements).

A third party is not the answer...as evidenced by Ross Perot handing the White House to Bill Clinton garnering 43% of the popular vote.

I prefer taking a lesson from The Godfather movie...the baptism scene to be specific.

If Thomas Jefferson and George Washington were alive today, they would be fighting over the length of the list of people to be dispatched.

I want a government that makes lobbying illegal.

Glad I'm not the only one. Their mere existence means that Congress is not representing their constituents, but the highest bidder.

It is becoming painfully obvious and disturbing that our government is not functioning as it was intended.

An Island Called Liberty
Dr. Suess meets Ayn Rand

Inside is a story of a right friendly land,
Where people were quick to lend a free hand.

With the best of intentions they passed many laws,
To fix what they felt were quite fixable flaws.

But the fixes, they found, were too much in the end,
For the bureaus and programs and taxes they penned.

Once the lessons were learned, here’s what they knew:
The contentment of many can’t come from the few.

Unless you can elect State Reps and Members of Congress, you'll never get anywhere.

That is certainly part of the plan. But to do that you need an attention getter. If all initial focus and effort goes towards the presidency to start, moving to local politics will be more effective.

Get real. The average American "citizen" can't tell you who his House representative is, who his Senators are, or name one Supreme Court justice. He can tell you who is the top draft choice in the NFL or who is on Oprah. It's too late for a revolution, there are not enough people left who give a shit.

I am going go have a good time proving that statement wrong. All I need is a little help from my friends. Freepers can make a difference.

I want a conservative movement that supports the right of the people to petition their government.

Idea has some merit, but would require people to do a lot of internet reading. With the average American attention span of around 9 seconds coupled with the usual and customary room-temperature IQ, not much would really get done. The idea would soon fizzle, except for the die hard, politically conscious...and those are probably in the minority as the last congressional elections already demonstrated.

I'm saying stop buying. Stop working over time. Buy used. Avoid paper tails. Do everything possible to avoid paying taxes and feeding the beast. People CAN live on less.

Stop watching commercials and sports that are on the networks which completely enable the Democratic Party by brainwashing urban voters.
