President Bush is expected to reach out to the families of two Texas Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a Mexican drug smuggler.

White House staff contacted former agent Ignacio Ramos' family early Friday, assuring them the president would call them soon, said Monica Ramos, the agent's wife.

Now Compean fired 14 or so rounds and hit nothing but mesquite, cacti or brush.

He did not spend enough time at the firing range. Practice, practice, practice.

"Is this unbelievable or what? The government has truly turned upside down."

It is unbelievable. But there is more here than ineptitude or politics. This appears to be malicious. As if the government is in collusion with the drug runners / invaders. A warning to others to back off as it were. Something is VERY WRONG HERE.

Because they were told that the judge would not accept a hung jury. They were not strong enough to stand up for the principles.

Some of us in the same category don't think the president's job description includes summarily pardoning individuals before he studies the facts of a case.

But then some freepers would miss the opportunity to bash GWB.  They have their minds made up and facts would only confuse them.

Hey, just thought of something else..... Mabye Ramos and Compean and their families ought to sue those three jurors because if they have voted not guilty then neither Ramos/Compean would be in prison as convicted felons... Also think of all the money this will cost us tax payers if they really didn't vote as they felt and caved in to pressure and cast an untruthful vote thus no upholding their sworn duty and getting this thing overturned. Maybe they should be given an opportunity to explain their votes under appeal as I'm sure the defense would like to explore it with them.

Did you know that Homeland Security sent two swat teams to arrest the border agents?

Well based upon their displayed marksmanship at Aldrete that does seem like a waste doesn't it?.....

The PC position of the leaders of this country are that these illegals are just doing the jobs that Americans refuse to do. They are ALL to be given more rights and benefits then we have, along with the terrorists. Bush has bought into the leftest liberal agenda on this, expect to see amnesty soon. If he does pardon these two it will be to appease us while he is planning an amnesty bill with nancy and reid.

The fact is, the only evidence they have that the agents committed the offenses for which they were jailed is the word of this illegal, lying, drug running scum bag.

They also have the bullet they pulled out of the drug runners behind which matched the ballistics of the agent's gun. The screw up was in not reporting, and then covering up the shooting, which is a serious issue. They opened the door by not reporting it, then denying it, then ultimately admitting it. Makes them look guilty to a jury, which heard the entire situation, including testimony from other border agents who came to the assistance of these two and corroborated the illegal's story.

Fact is, when they shot at him, they did not know he had the drugs...they just knew he was illegally fleeing. The one agent, who caught up with the guy, slipped and fell and the alien took off. The alien and the statements of some of the other agents indicate that the offficer was about to hit him with the butt of his shotgun when the agent fell down. The story about the illegal's gun came up later and was not a consistent story either to the prosecution, or to the other agents on the scene.

The other agent opened fire at that point and that is understandable when he sees his partner go down and the perp fleeing. The agen that went down also fired at the alien many times, apparently not knowing they hit him in the buttocks.

Like I said, the grave error in judgement on these agents part was in not only not reporting it, but picking up the casings to cover it up. Had they not done that, they would be free IMHO and probably have suffered some sort of suspension. Or, it they had taken the plea bargain, they would have gotten, as I understand it, a suspended sentence. It was in not reporting it and actively covering it up...the latter part is a criminal act..that they messed up badly and gave the opportunity for their prosecution.

It sickens me that an opportunity was given to some prosecutor to use an illegal, drug running aline to prosecute to agents with heretofore good records. it sickens me that this perp is free, scott free, for his statements...which is a travesty IMHO...and it is giving fuel to the open borders crowd for continuing to let this national shame go on. But these agents themselves bear a lot of blame in that they opened up the door by their own acts.

I'm sure it will happen. You don't hear much about those jurors in the news do you? It's like a black-out.

You said -- "Because they were told that the judge would not accept a hung jury. They were not strong enough to stand up for the principles."

And if I was on that jury, I would "hang that jury up until Kingdom come..." I'll guarantee you that. I'm probably the kind of juror that most lawyers will want "off" the jury -- depending on what they want to accomplish. I wouldn't listen to judges or lawyers.

That's exactly what I would have done too. Nothing and no one would have made me go against what I thought was right.

I have been reading about this for quite a while...This is some thing else that popped up on another thread about Johnny Sutton....http://www.narconews.com/Issue38/article1374.html

Makes you wonder if maybe he should be under investigation and facing jail time...I know several are not sure if these two BP agents are guilty as charged...Take the time and do some searches..Like the newspapers in El Paso and other border towns papers...The fact is assaults against BP agents are way up this year...Another agent just shot a illegal and is now under investigation...He said that he was protecting himself after being attacked by the illegal..Reading the papers there I can believe that..I looked at the Yuma paper and not shocked by what I read but guess wondering why what is happening on the border seems to be swept under the table by those we entrusted to protect us..Our government...After looking at this case for a while and hearing both sides from many individuals...I come to one conclusion..It is one miscarriage of justice...Just my two cents.... There was several supervisors there and they also did not report what happened...At the very least the border patrol regs call for a five day suspension...Not jail..

Well, it's about time! I'm glad that somebody finally got Bush's attention on this.

WE got his damn attention. And so did Hunter and Tancredo. Bush was content to let this disappear, but the people refused to let it go. If Bush pardons them, he shouldn't expect a thank you, either. He will have been dragged kicking and screaming into doing the right thing.

...and IMHO, you don't have to. As a citizen it is your job to judge the perpetrators, and the law. Juy nullification is a principle that was understood by those who framed our nations laws...but is forgotten and looked badly upon by many lawyers today because it threatens far too many of them who have forgotten what their real job is.

In this case, having read all of the accounts, and being more than favorably disposed towards the agents to begin with...I have to say that they opened the door for a guilty finding by their own actions to cover up the shooting, and the inconsistancy of their stories in the process.

It is sickening that our government would use an abject criminal to make this point, and to offer him amnesty for his own illegal acts. In any case I believe that too be a travesty...but the agents bear responsibility for making all of that possible.

If they had simply reported it, they would not be in this fix. That they didn't and the way they went about not reporting it and covering it...makes them look far more guilty than they are, and gave the prosecution the opening. IMHO, at the later date, they should have taken the suspended sentence plea bargain I heard they were offered.

If Bush does contact these families...maybe that will set the stage for a presidential pardon at the end of his term.

This border needs to be considered a "war zone" (of national security importance" and not a "police action".

I've got a video (posted here on FR) that shows us viewing some Iraquis in a car and a truck, by the side of the road. They stop (you're seeing it at a distance on an IR camera, and you hear nothing, just see the people there). Two of them on in the picture, obviously chatting. One goes off about 25 yards or so, off the road and drops something that he's carrying and comes back. Then the two talk some more. Then they both walk over to the side of the road. The orders come on the military radio channel (that you hear) "Waste them!" And "boom!" they shoot a bunch of rounds, get one guy, get another. So, two dead. But, another figure (who was not there before, shows up around the side of the truck. The military radio channel says "Waste him!" Boom! He's dead.

You don't see anything that they're "doing" -- except "being there" and talking and someone dropping off something about 25 yards from the side of the road. Three guys dead on the spot. Two vehicle wrecked.

Now, that's the way to handle that border. Not a police action. Nope.

If you're there -- you're dead! That's it.

Star Traveler
