Republicans 2008: Giuliani 28%, McCain 20%
Angus Reid Global Monitor ^ | 1/20/2007 | Staff

Posted on 01/19/2007 2:35:59 PM PST by Dark Skies

Rudy Giuliani is still the preferred presidential hopeful for Republican Party sympathizers in the United States, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 28 per cent of respondents would support the former New York City mayor in a 2008 primary.

Arizona senator John McCain is second with 20 per cent, followed by former House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich with 14 per cent, and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney with eight per cent.

Earlier this month, Gingrich questioned the GOP’s reliance on its conservative base, saying, "Ronald Reagan understood that arguments should be made where we have huge advantages with virtually all Americans. He was brilliant at avoiding base-narrowing appeals and emphasizing base-broadening appeals. A base-motivation party inherently, in the long run, drives away the non-base."

In American elections, candidates require 270 votes in the Electoral College to win the White House. In November 2004, Republican George W. Bush earned a second term after securing 286 electoral votes from 31 states. Democratic nominee John Kerry received 252 electoral votes from 19 states and the District of Columbia.

Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.

I agree, the only issue that's important is a leader who will run the islamofascist nutbags out of Dodge and elsewhere. IMO Rudy's the only one.

But Rudy cut taxes many times and fired up the economy.

I truly believe Conservatives are being marginalized by RINOS, Country Club Republicans......

Conservatives marginalize themselves because they're politically stupid.

Here's what Rudy said in a Dennis Prager interview...
When I became Mayor of New York City, I started to fight very hard for tax cuts in New York City. New York City had really never done tax cuts before. We were sort of a very typical liberal Democratic model of tax in order to solve your budget deficit. And then, you’d very quickly make your budget deficit worse, because businesses would leave. So I began a program of tax reduction. Eventually, I reduced 23 taxes, eliminated some, reduced taxes by $3-4 billion...

Personally, I like Giuliani. I don't agree with him on a variety of issues, but, he was able to clean up NYC and told that Saudi Prince shmuck where to stuff it with the 10 million dollar check he offered after 911. Gotta love it. He comes across as a real man, not some pseudo MSM creation, like Obama or a political has been like Clinton, or a Manchurian candidate like McCain. I would venture to say that a lot of Americans might be seeing the same qualities.

http://archives.cnn.com/2001/US/10/11/rec.giuliani.prince/index.html

"Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Thursday the city would not accept a $10 million donation for disaster relief from Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal after the prince suggested U.S. policies in the Middle East contributed to the September 11 attacks."

Newt is doing well, considering that a month ago he wouldn't even be included in the list. Raising his profile early and absence of reasonable acceptable alternatives should help him make up his mind on whether to run and get some feeling for financial and campaign backing.

"Come on HP...you know that McCain is a psycho and Rudy is an effective leader"

Rudy is a leader of what? A queer pride parade?

He ran the bums and beggers out of the downtown area of a liberal cesspool of a city. Beyond that I don't see much that qualifies him for anything.

We are at war and we aren't fighting bums and beggers.

I also like that Rudy is a good speaker.

He always appears to speak from the heart. No bumbling and stumbling.

No, the one thing we're fighting even more than terrorism is, we're fighting ourselves.

If this keep up for long, (and it probably will) we will have either H.C. or the Breck girl as President... God help us!

Tell us how you really feel.:)

McCain seems to be hated by most freepers. But lots of freepers are supporting Romney.
He is one step aheand of Rudy on my list.

All three are RINOS.

The rest of the country generally isn't as bad shape as New York was when Rudy took over.

We don't need his bully leadership. Great for NY, not so good for the rest of us.

IMO that's because he IS speaking from the heart. That cannot be faked.

That's why Rudy's gonna win. Win the election and win the war with fundamental islam.

He's real! And a tough SOB.

He is a RINO. I cannot deny that. But he understands the threat of islam. He's a killer when it comes to prosecution.

He's the Churchill of our time.

Unfortunately, the RINOS (advocates of bigger government across the board) have been in charge for quite some time. GWB is one of them. Ron Paul is the only exception in the race.
