Shawn Hornbeck's parents say they may never know the full story as to why their son Shawn never attempted to contact them or to escape during the more than four years he lived with the man police say abducted him in 2002. But they said comments by Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly that the boy may have enjoyed living with Michael Devlin more than his family had infuriated the couple.
Shawn's stepfather, Craig Akers, said in an interview with TIME late Thursday evening. "Our son was 11 when he was abducted. A child that age can be mentally manipulated in a very short time. Hearing him say what he said absolutely infuriates me. I can hardly even express how mad it makes me to hear that."

And children, even very young would go to great lengths to protcet their families.
I can see asking why someone abducted or abused doesn't reach out for help. I think what is being done in this case though is asking with ... "attitude."
I always remind people to read the Steven Stayner story. He was 7 when he was abducted, stayed with his abuser for 7 years. He was even enrolled in public schools as they moved around.
Understanding the psychology behind someone behaving that way is an acceptable pursuit, such as "I wonder what happened that he was unable to ask for help even when it was available."
It's a "Goth" look, when's the last time you went to the mall or a High School? Please, earrings and piercings don't automatically make you gay.
Freepers typically post to people who don't directly post to them. It's OK. It's standard operating procedure.

Excellent Article for those who really want to learn, why.

I was annoyed by the tone of those posts more than anything.
You enjoy coming here to vent and call people "stupid" to make yourself feel better about yourself?
Hope I made your day:-)
Post to me when your manners improve:-)
You know I have always had the upmost respect for Law enforcement officers. I feel that they along with firemen, teachers and the military don't make nearly enough.
You however, with your last statement, made me realize that just because someone is a police officer doesn't mean I should automatically respect them as a person.
I don't live in ignorant bliss, I was sexually abused by someone I should have been safe with, and I have lived with it for all my life. I know personally what some things can do to a person. I also had someone try to take my daughter when she was young, so you are wrong.
Instead of replying right back at you, I think I will take the high road and pray for you.
Guess who?
When my manners improve?
What? I watched the show and didn't see any jewelry on Shawn at all. Where did you see this?
I couldn't agree with you more.
Furthermore, it has been a week now and they still haven't sought professional help? Someone needs to do an intervention on this family...
Not only did she not leave him but she let him impregnate her again after the episode!!!!!
If only Robert Cooke could hear the same good news.
He is such a jewel and so happy when one of his unfortunate fraternity (parents of missing children) has the unexpected happen for them, as it did for the Akerses.
It is what I saw on a FNC broadcast, I thought it was from the Oprah show. I see I have been taken of the banned list for now.
Is that better
Wow, no wonder so many of my posts go unanswered. I didn't realize we are supposed to only write posts to people who addressed us first.
Wow. Is it OK if I *read* all these other posts, too, or not? /sarc
Almost hate to post this on *this* thread, but will do it anyway.
Shawn had his bike stolen from Devlin's front porch, 10 months after his kidnapping, and reported it to the police, who followed up and came to see him.
It was a new bike, not the one he was riding when last seen, and speculation is that it might have been a birthday present from the kidnapper.
