We don't have time to give people "chances." The situation is far too serious. We need someone with a proven track record of party-building, guts, articulateness, and firm GOP principles. Not a politically correct buddy of the president's.

IIRC Duncan will do the heavy lifting and Mel's "general" designation lets him do the fundraising within the legal bounds of McLame-Feingold, etc. This might not be as bad as it first seems. Then again ... grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I sure hope so

I have nothing against Martinez and I'm sure he's a nice man

But we need someone who can light a fire under the Republican Party and stop taking crap and lies from the Dems

I know that the Chairman is the face of the RNC --- appears on TV to articulate the GOP platform --- he raises money for the RNC --- but he does not make policy.

Thanks, Onyx...that's what I thought. I think the feeling of doom has come over us because we are up against the biggest election ever in '08--most likely against the Clinton slime machine. We really need someone sharp and aggressive, a charismatic figure who will be able to give it right back to the Dems, especially on the talk shows. Just my opinion.

Who would be the person with a proven track record?

In my mind Hong Kong Haley was the best chief, but now he's too busy. Nicholson was no great shakes. I'm open to ideas, I just don't know who would be a slam-dunk.

Bad choice. I guess he doesn't have enough to do in the Senate. Today's Washington Times had yet another cartoon of Bush in bed with Mexico's Fox.

Martinez was a co-sponsor on SB 2611. He sides with Ted Kennedy against American citizens,
That's enough for me.

Good point. The way things have been going since the midterm elections, my feeling is that the only chance conservatives have to regain power is for there to be a mass exodus from the GOP to form a new party or join an existing third party.

Only something of that magnitude would enable to conservatives to get media coverage and to get their message out there to the masses and not just to the political junkies.

Given that he's President Bush's choice, I would anticipate that he will promote the president's policies.

And when it comes to shamnesty, that's exactly the problem.

Great. Amnesty is a done deal.

Well...on the bright side...I may as well start learning spanish and add it to my skillset. So much for national sovereignty.

Perhaps the job had nothing to do with immigration up to this point, but it does now.
