Honours police arrest Blair aide

Downing Street political adviser Ruth Turner has become the fourth person to be arrested by police investigating the cash-for-honours allegations.

Ms Turner was arrested at 0630GMT but later released on police bail after being quizzed for several hours.

She was questioned over honours allegations and suspicion of perverting the course of justice. She has issued a statement denying any wrongdoing.

They're getting close, looks like Tony Blair may be next. As I understand it, a sitting Prime Minister is not immune from criminal prosecution.

He'd better hope his aides are loyal and take the fall for him.

It was basically a campaign-contribution scheme.

Rich people 'loaned' large sums of money to the Labour Party. Somehow, they ended up with peerages. The party treasuer and Tony Blair claimed they knew nothing about how this happened.

One wealthy gent of Pakistani ancestry put up a lot of money and complained when he didn't get a peerage.

But if Blair goes, it is virtually certain the UK will quit Iraq, and maybe Afghanistan as well.
