Rats chewing on electrical wire inside a mobile home likely caused a wildfire near the Diablo Canyon nuclear plant, authorities said.

"The most probable cause of the fire is related to rodents and the electrical system," Andy Anderson of the California Department of Fire and Forestry said in a statement.

The 332-acre blaze, which burned within two miles of the nuclear plant, was surrounded Wednesday, forestry spokeswoman Laura Brown said. It is expected to be fully extinguished Saturday.

The blaze began Sunday on land owned by Pacific Gas & Electric Co. when a mobile home ignited and flames spread to brush, including parts of Montana de Oro State Park, she said.

All trails in the park have been reopened.

In the movie 'Final Destination 3,' SPOILERS!

a subway train crash is caused by a rat chewing on one of its electrical wires (It had been attracted by a bit of a candy bar that had melted onto one of the wires, giving new meaning to the phrase "Death by chocolate").

I am so sick of Rats getting blames for everything. Fires, plague, etc. Why don't the take a hard look at the cavemen from Geico. They look suspicious to me.

Not certain about rats, but squirrels don't need that incentive. They LIKE the taste of the plastic sheath on the normal house wiring cables.

I insist on Rat control legislation. Five day waiting period for rat purchase and no more than one rat per month. Concealed carry of rats should be strictly regulated.

I'm trying to get rid of a rat in my house right now. He's already chewed through my phone and computer lines, and at night I can hear him in the attic going after the wiring for my eyeball lights. I've tried snaptraps, gluetraps, and poison and so far no luck.

Tenacious little buggers!
