MoveOn.org Targets McCain in Iowa and New Hampshire Over the past several election cycles, Moveon.org has demonstrated a willingness to throw its weight around in the political process.
Today provides yet another example, as the influential liberal group is up with television commercials intended label Sen. John McCain -- the leading Republican candidate for president in 2008 -- as the leading supporter of sending more U.S. troops to Iraq.
In the ad, as images of McCain and President Bush flash across the screen, a narrator intones: "John McCain has done more than just embrace George Bush's failed policy in Iraq. It's actually his idea to escalate the war there." (Watch it below.)
Tom Mattzie, Moveon's Washington director, echoed that theme in an interview with intrepid washingtonpost.com political producer Ed O'Keefe. "McCain's been for escalation since before Bush was for escalation," he said.
The ad went up today and will run for the next week in Iowa and New Hampshire, which, not coincidentally, are poised to cast the first votes of the 2008 campaign. The ad is running at 400 gross rating points in the Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Quad Cities media markets in Iowa, and in the Manchester market in New Hampshire. Moveon is also running the commercial on cable television nationally with a specific emphasis on New York City and Washington, D.C. Moveon is spending $230,000 on the ad buy.

I guess we will run ? or ? or some other unknown.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend........
This must be the only time I have been in agreement with MoveOn.org. This will serve two purposes: One, to stop McCain in his tracks. Two, to use up more of Soros' money.
Reall, who is there to run? There is no Republican that those on the right and those on the extreme right agree on. The dems are so stupid they will accept anyone.
That makes two of us. I was saying to myself, good, we don't have to oppose him.
It was only a matter of time before the libs targeted McCain for destruction - all he did was advance their schedule a bit.
I was thinking about the fact that the troop escalation was McCain's idea, while reading the article about Pelosi supporting escalation.
The Democrats were taking that position in the period right before the Nov. election, in an effort to divide the Republicans. Pelosi just forgot to to come up with another position after the election.
"Ditto"
Just goes to show you what happens when Republicans appease liberals.
Move-On.org appears to have a clear long-term strategy.....early abort whoever is the GOP front-runner of the moment. Once he begins to fade, they'll shift their sights to whoever replaces him.
Wasn't it McCain's Campaign Finance Reform bill that enabled the MoveOn.Org's to even exist?
The irony ....
This is just the beginning of the McCain human sacrifice at the hands of liberal media groups. He's calculated on big support from the media from the fawning treatment he's received through his Bush bashing and collaboration on bills with Democrats. But, unless he dumps the (R) after his name, he's dead meat at the media's hand when the election begins. Although McCain reveled in the title of "maverick," he never fully appreciated the true meaning of the term in its application to the calf's separation from the herd, loss of its protection, and new position of being totally at the mercy of the plain's predators. He will soon.
