U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter will go south to formally launch his bid for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.

Roy Tyler, the El Cajon Republican's communications director for the effort, said Tuesday that the announcement will take place Jan. 25 at a $250-a-plate breakfast at a Marriott hotel in Spartanburg, S.C.

"Congressman Hunter will speak about a new American sunrise of opportunity, faith and freedom," according to an invitation for the event.

Hunter, 58, announced in San Diego in early November that he was considering a run for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, keying on national security, immigration and border security issues.

Last week, Hunter filed his formal paperwork with the Federal Election Commission, establishing the Hunter for President Exploratory Committee and naming longtime supporter Bruce Young of San Diego as his treasurer.

I wish I lived in South Carolina, but I'm stuck in worthless NY! Duncan Hunter's going to be a great candidate and people just need to watch for him. The Arizona straw poll was a nice start and now it's up to people to discover the "John Wayne of Congress" who will make an awesome president. His site is not complete but there is a link to contribute so if you like Hunter too and want to do your part it's at http://www.gohunter08.com

So far he's the best we've got running.

Being an Atlantan, I was thinking about driving to Spartanburg to hear him announce his candidacy. Unfortunately I can't get the time off work.

I'm contributing to his campaign, however, and hope to be able to volunteer for him in the metro Atlanta area.

From what I have read, Rep Hunter looks to me to be the best of a rapidly expanding field. It would be interesting to create a chart of candidates and their positions. I believe that would help the conservative base rapidly filter out candidates that they have problems with and wont support.

This will have the net effect of helping narrow the field. This would help reduce the chances of a bloody primary fight and get the contributions flowing in during this year to help build for the Presidential race.

Hunter has a lot of catching up to do on the name recognition front. He's not even a common name around FR, and this is probably where he's most popular.

He intrigues me, and I think he's probably the best we have a the moment issues ise, but until we start seeing him mentioned on a national level he'll be a footnote in this election.

Hard to overcome, but not impossible.

Yes, and not only on stances. It's nice that Hunter, unlike Tancredo(yes I'm trying to convince people who tend toward Tancredo that Hunter has the illegal issue on him and MORE) is a decorated Vietnam combat vet with a son who served in Iraq and has a great ability in getting his message across. Like I say, he's what a Commander in Chief should be!

I encourage everyone at FR to strongly support their favorite candidate in the primary races. Hunter is not my first choice, although he has many positives going for him.

His entry into the race is a good thing.

May I humbly remind everyone on this Duncan Hunter ping list, that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the concept of praying for the man, there has been a "Pray for President Bush" thread for a long, long time now, and while I have not heard Congressman Hunter spell out his own religious beliefs, my gut feeling tells me that he is a Christian who does the best he can to live by the Good Book, and lifting him up in prayer in these early days of the campaign can certainly do no harm, and in fact will do a lot of good that we might not see on the surface, but I think he is worthy of such prayers.

Glad to hear he's going to announce in South Carolina, I think that is a good place to 'officially' begin.

Can we also have a "Pray McCain Isn't the Nominee in 2008" thread as well? Please?

Let's hope he comes out with a book because I doubt the leftist media will give him space unless it is to trash him.
