Michael J. Fox Guest at State of the Union(Well isn't that special.)

Michael J. Fox, whose advocacy ads created a stir in last fall's elections, will attend President Bush's State of the Union address next week as a guest of Rhode Island Rep. Jim Langevin.

Both are staunch supporters of embryonic stem-cell research.

Fox, 45, suffers from Parkinson's disease. As the 2006 elections neared, he appeared in television campaign ads for political candidates who support the research.

"Congressman Langevin is a tireless champion for the advancement of medical research, and I am honored to join him next week at the State of the Union," the actor said in a statement.

Langevin, who has been confined to a wheelchair since an accidental shooting that occurred when he was a teenager, addressed his colleagues in the House of Representatives last week in support of a bill that would bolster embryonic stem cell research.

The Democratic-controlled House passed the legislation, but the White House has promised to veto it.

Langevin invited Dana Reeve, Christopher Reeve's widow, as his guest to the State of the Union address in 2005. She died of lung cancer last year.

"I am sure Michael will help to further Chris and Dana's legacy and underscore for the President just how serious I am about pursuing the promise of stem cell research," Langevin said in a statement Tuesday.

Will he have taken his meds, or will he be shaking for the camera to garner sympathy?

The ironic thing is Jim Langevin, while pro-embryo stem cell research, is pro-life on everything else.

I wonder why no one has pointed out that Michael J. Fox's condition is so "serious" that he can willfully choose to go off his medication any time he likes and not suffer any permanent damage as a result.

If there was ever the case for a "sour grapes" veto, this would be it.

Someone needs to ask the most exalted M. J. Fox how many babies his life is worth. By the way isn't it the libs who use the mantra of, "if we can save just one child."

This actor should make an appointment to see his doctor before he goes out in public to make sure that he's taking the proper dosage of his medicine. I hear the last time he entered the political arena he overdosed and it caused him to shake on camera.

Wouldn't want people to think that he is always like that.

The Speaker of the House controls the cameras used for the State of the Union. Make a bet the Dems are going to choreograph this beautifully -- Bush speaks of Iraq, and the camera will pan to crippled Iraq vets shaking their heads in disapproval. Bush talks about the sanctity of life, and we get Michael J. Fox, crying.

I was under the impression that so far, the only advances with stem cell research was with adult stem cells. Is this still accurate?

I don't understand why he has to do this stuff. I don't feel a need to drag out the pictures of my mother at her worst when I try to tell people about Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and the need for funding for other types of cancer besides Breast.
