For what experts say is probably the first time, more American women are living without a husband than with one, according to a New York Times analysis of census results.
In 2005, 51 percent of women said they were living without a spouse, up from 35 percent in 1950 and 49 percent in 2000.
Coupled with the fact that in 2005 married couples became a minority of all American households for the first time, the trend could ultimately shape social and workplace policies, including the ways government and employers distribute benefits.
Several factors are driving the statistical shift. At one end of the age spectrum, women are marrying later or living with unmarried partners more often and for longer periods. At the other end, women are living longer as widows and, after a divorce, are more likely than men to delay remarriage, sometimes delighting in their newfound freedom.
In addition, marriage rates among black women remain low. Only about 30 percent of black women are living with a spouse, according to the Census Bureau, compared with about 49 percent of Hispanic women, 55 percent of non-Hispanic white women and more than 60 percent of Asian women.
In a relatively small number of cases, the living arrangement is temporary, because the husbands are working out of town, are in the military or are institutionalized. But while most women eventually marry, the larger trend is unmistakable.

Drove my kid nuts when I used to put it on and chat with him about how things REALLY are while I was deprogramming him every d@mn day after a day at "Publik Skrewel!"
I had no choice. I'm his Evil StepMom and we couldn't afford private school for him, so it was up to me to deprogram him during Homework Time in the evenings. My husband has absolutely NO interest in politics, whatsoever. (Husband puts up with a lot from me; good thing I'm cute!)
Either way, the metal colander is a great visual to use, LOL!
LOL.
My Kid is in the Wi publik skrewel system, "I feel youre pain" L0L
I actually had hoped that Wi would be a good place but they are soo liberal up there.
And down here? Well its all football and cotton and thump thump pickup trucks. meanwhile the kids get to fightin and drinkin...sigh
L0L I have a relative that has a chalkboard in the kitchen/dinningroom, It justs says NO! she points to it and laffs when the kids are crazy
Ill think I'll stick with my purple conander and the added plastic flowers plunked in the holes would simply add to my sons HORROR as we spoke ;)
Sigh...mines in pulik skool too. The worst is the time life for kids (which i understand is a "requirement") I spend alot time teaching reality at home too.
Thankfully, so far, most of his teachers lean to the right.
DIW your husband sounds like mine. Hes given up trying to listen to the news on CNN or pmsnbc cuz I lose it.
Ive either already heard it hear on FR and therefore give him the commentary over the top of the bobbing head, or i SIGH prefusly, yell at the tv...... Good thing he loves me so much;)
FR is constantly 2-3 days ahead of the MSM on news
I love the colander schtich. Humor goes a long way
So the way to reel em in is to hide yourself away?
Ive noticed that too, atleast 2-3 days!
Ive given up tv news altogether. Even FOX news-I was afraid the neighbors were going to think I was insane (we live in a townhouse) cuz i was always talking/yelling to the TV set and not in a good way;) not good for the blood pressure either!
Ouch!
About all I can Tolerate is Fox anf friends over coffe.
