Ford Jr. to teach public policy at Vanderbilt

Harold Ford Jr. might be coming to a classroom near you, at least for some lucky Vanderbilt students.

The Nashville university announced today the five-term former congressman has taken a position as a visiting professor of public policy.

Ford will teach a seminar called "Foundations of American Political Leadership," starting next week.

"Vanderbilt is a world-class university, and I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to teach at this wonderful place," Ford said in a news release. Numerous attempts to reach him this afternoon were unsuccessful.

Ford, a Memphis Democrat, held the Ninth Congressional District seat in the U.S. House for the past 10 years.

The 36-year-old lost a close race with Bob Corker in November to take over the Senate seat vacated by former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist.

The young Democrat’s plans and political viability have been the source of endless speculation since.

Ford Jr. is the leading candidate to become the next chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council, a Washington think tank.

He has been endorsed by the current chairman, former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack.

The centrist group is expected to make a formal announcement as early as this week confirming the arrangement.

Vanderbilt officials started talking to Ford shortly after the election about him coming to the school. The seminar, which will be limited to about 20 students, was announced to students today, said Michael Schoenfeld, vice chancellor for public affairs. He expects the seats to be filled by day’s end.

"We are very pleased that Congressman Ford will be joining Vanderbilt," Schoenfeld said. " It’s a great opportunity for our students and it is a great opportunity for the university to be exposed to someone who is clearly one of the more visible and respected politicians in the country today."

Golly gee, Mr. Ford, will you teach your students how to come from a corrupt family of dishonest political hacks to rise to a popular role in a party of depraved demagogues?

Or will you actually teach them anything of value?

Reminds me of when I attended the JFK School of Government at Harvard and it was stocked with out of power Republicans. We used to joke that the initials of its Institute of Politics, IOP, really stood for I'm Out of Power.

I would think JR would take the "time off" and study for the bar. After all he is a law school graduate, just not a lawyer.

Hmmmm. Not a lawyer? That may be a good thing.

Be nice and as you well know he would do a fine job of teaching them how to flunk out of law school. He was excellent in doing this.

Ford would be unlucky, very unlucky to have me as one of his students.

Ford will teach......"Foundations of American Political Leadership,"

Proving once again:
Those who can - do.
Those who can't - teach.

What the hell is it with politicians --- even when you throw the bastards out - they can't find or do honest WORK.
