At least he's winning over the southern vote with his position against the South Carolina state flag. ;o)

Pretty well tops with the Sandanistas.

Pat Moynihan, bleeding heart liberal, had a great statement that he shared back in the runup to one of the campaigns in the 90's.

He said that there was a disease which afflicts U.S. Senators once every four years. The symptoms are that despite not being known outside their own state afflicted Senators wake up one morning thinking, not only that they should be President, but that they can get elected.

He was talking about Bob Smith, but this also applies to people like Bob Graham in 2004 and Dodd in 2008.

James Buckley is not forgettable.

I don't know about the others, but if they were going up against Dodd they probably had more memorable things to say than the repetitive knee-jerk liberal blather that he comes up with on a daily basis.

Amusing post, thanks. Dodd is a dud with delusions of being dandy.

Chris Dud's first pronouncement as a Presidential candidate is to complain about the State Flag of the soverign state of South Carolina. It is either comforting that the Dud thinks CT is in such fine shape that our biggest concern is another state's flag or chilling that he is so unaware of our state's condition.

Apparently Chris Dodd & Ted Kennedy were deep into their cups (fourth or fifth martini) when Dodd broached the idea to Kennedy. "Watcha think Ted should I run for President?"
Ted (they've known each other since childhood, their father's were good friends) not wanting to burst Dodd's balloon says "Hey Chris my man (hiccup) go for it, you can kick Hillary's butt and as far as that interloper Obama bama, or whatever his name, the media love fest with him will be over by early 2008 and you can emerge as the front runner."
So there you have it folks ... the story behind the story.

As a political conservative I have always found Christopher Dodd to be a pathetic joke, like his drinking buddy, Ted ("where's the bar?") Kennedy. The Waterbury Republican-American editoral was quite correct. Chris Dodd is a do-nothing senator with a record of embracing Castro and other Latin dictators that have declared themselves enemies of the U.S., by word and/or deed. That, alone, should disqualify him from any kind of serious consideration as a potential presidential candidate.

White-haired Christopher Dodd is basically a boring guy, even for a liberal politician. A senator from a smal state that is very over-taxed and has a horrible business climate (anti-busineess is more accurate). The major cities are mostly unlivable. Schools are mediocre. Connecticut is a good example of what happens when liberals move in and basically take over the political landscape. It's a mess. Oh, it still looks nice - but the cost of living is outrageous, taxes are ridiculous and the political leftists run almost everything, including the state legislature.

Chris Dodd does next to nothing for his state except show up at photo-ops or when the Groton submarine base was threatened with closure. He knows that he can get away with doing nothing because, like Ted 'The Swimmer' Kennedy in next-door Massachusetts, the citizens of Connecticut would vote for almost anyone who had a 'D' after their name on the ballot. Chris Dodd is a bad joke and a lazy, do-nothing senator. His candidacy is an insult to the intelligence of any voter, even a Democrat voter, who gives him a moment of serious consideration.

Just what this campaign needs ... another lapsed "Catholic" who espouses abortion, has been divorced and remarried (shades of Kerry, Giuliani and Ted Kennedy).

Waterbury is a great American City -- tells Jane Fonda to go to hell, and now this.

Perhaps his pal Ortega's victory has encouraged him to make this pointless and hopeless run.

I would support a Constitutional Amendment banning any current Senator from running as President or Vice President. Pompous windbags, all.

I want Dodd to run for the nomination. The Senate is now 50 Dem and 49 GOP. (Johnson won't be back for months). Senators have to show up on the floor to vote. With Dodd, Biden and Kerry all spending their time campaigning, the vote is 47-49. And with mccain also campaigning, it's even more likely that the GOP positions will win. (He'd make many votes 48-48, with Cheney to break the tie. Without him, the votes would likely be 47-48)

I recently read here that running for President is a handy way to launder surplus campaign money to yourself. When you become a candidate for an office you can pay yourself the salary that that office pays. So as long as Dodd is a candidate for President, he can pay himself at a rate of $400,000/year from his own war chest.

When you look back at some of the people who made you scratch your head when they announced their candidacy for President over the years, this information helps explain what was actually going on.
