Another Cockamamie Lib Idea Fails The Real World Test
The Stiletto ^ | January 15, 2007 | The Stiletto

Posted on 01/15/2007 4:08:20 AM PST by theothercheek

In one of those rare instances of The New York Times waking up and smelling the coffee, the paper reports that “safe haven laws” in New York and 46 other states – which allow mothers to legally and anonymously abandon their newborns at specific locations – have failed to reduce the number of mothers who kill their unwanted children.

The Times quotes a forensic psychiatrist and assistant professor at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia explaining that mothers who kill their newborns “see it as a foreign object; they want it out and done with and gone.”

The Stiletto does not finds this surprising – though shocking nonetheless - given the relentless 34-year campaign by NARAL and Planned Parenthood to de-humanize unborn children by claiming they are nothing more than clumps of cells. These groups and their supporters are deliberately vague on just when a clump morphs into a baby-shaped human being so as not raise uncomfortable questions about late-term abortion. But advances in ultrasound technology (caution: graphic images might upset rabid pro-abortionists) are making the Big Lie that has wiped more than 47 million Americans off the face of the earth less and less sustainable.

The Stiletto hopes the day will come when unborn children are regarded by the law and by society as fully human from the moment of conception. Only then mothers who might be tempted to throw their newborns into the trash or to flush them down the toilet will be completely cognizant that they are about to snuff out the life of a human being.

I actually think pro-lifers would be more effective showing ultrasound pictures of a live baby in the womb than trying to show the gruesome pictures of aborted babies. Most people can't even look at the gruesome pictures, but ultrasound pictures people would look at and the point would get across.

Agreed. The Wikipedia image was even animated. They have animated billboards now - one of them I saw had a snippet of Katie Couric delivering the news (no sound) but if that could be used to show a 4D ultrasound ...

Redundant to us, but not at all to them. I bet they're all sitting around scratching their heads over the failure of these laws not realizing the "root cause" (to co-opt one of their own terms) is that unborn babies are not treated as being quite human, so it's not a human being that's being killed the moment it exits the birth canal. Maybe it becomes a human being after the umbilical cord is cut, or after it celebrates its first birthday, or when it is in college. The whole thing's a mystery to me, since I learned in Biology 101 that it's a human being the moment the sperm pentrated the egg.

In most states, it was not liberals pushing for safe haven laws, it was pro life conservatives. The point wasn't really to reduce the number of deaths, it was simply to save lifes that might have been lost.

It has save lives in Iowa. As a Conservative, I have to ask, what is the "Conservative" solution to this problem of fatal abandonment?

Did you see National Geographic Channel last night?

They showed the development of twins and other multiple births.

It was astonishing.

Anyone that could watch that and still believe in abortion has no soul.

I have been saying that for a while. The pro aborts are going to complain about the gruesome pictures and they won't really 'see' them. But, everybody loves to look at baby pictures. It is only later when a person of choice has a crisis of consciousness.

Most people can't even look at the gruesome pictures, but ultrasound pictures...

Most people will respond to cute picutures of cows, but post a slaughterhouse picture outside of MacDonald's and they would be offended as they entered the restaurant to eat.

The point is that MacDonald's has isolated us from the truth.

The offense is meant to be ironic. If the gore is bad, then why is the act of abortion good?

Probably there are people who need either or both images, the gore, and the ultrasound. If one looks at the gore and is offended, then one needs to look a little deeper within ones' self to ask why. I love hamburgers, but I do not like abortion, and I my only offense at gory pictures is hypocrites who are pecksniffian in their pretentions to goodness.

We came across it by accident and were riveted to the TV. It gave me an answer to an old family puzzle.

I actually think pro-lifers would be more effective showing ultrasound pictures of a live baby in the womb than trying to show the gruesome pictures of aborted babies.

Live ultrasounds are extremely effective at turning around abortion-minded women. Almost 90% will choose against abortion if they see a live ultrasound of their unborn child. I was told this by a doctor at a crisis pregnancy center.

But we're all familiar with generic images of unborn children. And those don't seem to be as effective in changing hearts and minds. I know a lot of people who have changed their position regarding abortion after seeing "the pictures." I know that I will never forget the photos that I've seen. You have to go out of your way to see them, or have someone force you to look at them.

I think it was liberals who pushed for the feel good law here in CO. In fact I'm quite sure.

I wondered about the effect many a time. TO my knowledge it has saved even one life, and I've kept an ear out for it all these years.

The solution is many fold, but one of the fastest and most caring ways to ease the problem of new borns in dumpsters and toilets is a pro-adoption mind set/atitude/system.

Yes, I was an identical twin and my sister stopped developing in the 4th or 5th month. Even though we shared the same placenta I survived and in the early 50s this was considered unusual. From what I heard on the program a twin can die because they are getting too much or two little blood flow and it often happens in the middle months. I used to get a lot of evil twin jokes from my brothers...
