N. Korea's Pyongyang Defense Command performed Command Post Maneuver Exercise (CPMX)
A (S. Korean) government source said on Jan. 15, "We spotted that N. Korea's Pyongyang Defense Command did CPMX on Jan. 12. However, no real military hardware was involved."
He went on, "There was no abrupt surge of communication volume among N. Korea military due to this exercise. We spotted some tanks, but we cannot determine whether they were actually involved in the exercise."
According to him, CPMX is the exercise on the map without using actual hardware like tanks, and it is a simulation exercise on what to do in case of emergency.
With regard to this news, a military source remarked, "Our intelligence agency was not able to confirm that tanks were present inside Pyongyang. No alert was issued inside our intelligence agency due to the exercise."
The source added that "they have seen no indications" on whether there will be military parade or its practice drills for Kim Jong-il's 65th birthday(Feb. 16) and the 75th founding anniversary of Korean People's Army (Apr. 25.)
