Egyptian security forces have detained six members of the Muslim Brotherhood, a security source told AFP.
Mohammed Ali Bishr, a member of the opposition movement's top decision making body, the guidance bureau, was arrested at dawn Sunday in Cairo, while the others were detained in the city of Alexandria and the southern town of Asyut.
The latest arrests are part of a wider crackdown that has been going on since December. At least 36 other members of the Brotherhood remain in custody, including Khayrat al-Shater, the movement's financier and third-ranking official.
Last week, in an interview to a local magazine, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said that the Brotherhood poses a threat to Egypt's security because the country would face international isolation should the Islamist movement become more powerful.
Ping
I was hoping it was the Muslim Brotherhood. I would like to see them run out of my city. LOL
The Muslim Brotherhood long has been a thorn in the side of a secular Egypt government. Sayyid Qutb, the father of modern Islamist fundamentalism joined the Brotherhood in 1951. His teachings are the foundation of radical Islam
Almost ALL of the terrorism the world faces today sprung from the Muslim Brotherhood influence over the last half century.
Now that Mubarak is cracking down again on them speaks volumes. It tells me something is up and it isn't good
Looks like it will soon explode in Egypt.
