Gotta sing in church today so getting ready to head off.

Just a quick note...has anybody noticed that Fox news has a new pundit?

Heh. Yes, it's Christine O'Donnell and below a pic of Christine on Fox news this past week and below this, a pic of Christine with....tada...Mom-Mom and Kaitlyn!

Christine is the candidate who ran against Carper this past November as an independent. She didn't win but she sure had quite an impact, eh?

Christine O'Donnell on Fox

Christine O'Donnell, Mom-Mom, and Kaitlyn

Good Lord. Senator Hagel is a blathering idiot. "Let's be clear about one thing Tim, no one in congress wants a collapse of Iraq."  All that said "The issue of more military involvement as the President proposes is not the appropriate course of action." ---snip--- " but a political solution is."
What a freakin' moron. A political solution involves compromising with your opponent and giving him enough of what he wants to satisfy his desires.  Since the goal is an Iraq under the control of Iran, an avowed enemy pledged to eliminate both Israel and the United States... Just how many Americans do we have to allow them to kill for this political solution to be acceptable to Iran?

As an addendum, Good Lord. Senator Dodd is a blathering idiot too. "No one suggested pulling out quickly here."  Continuing... "this increase of 17,000 American troops is misguided."

I'm scratching my head here. The President changes his SecDef, changes the head of CentCom, changes the commander in charge of Iraq and wants to increase troop size in Iraq.  Dodd says we have lost, doesn't want to increase troop size and doesn't want to pull out.

I'm confused. Who is it that has the "stay the course" mentality?

I just finished watching VP Cheney's interview with Chris Wallace. The VP really is a pro, cannot be surprised and handles himself as well as any.

Since the President spoke last Wednesday, there has been something wrong with my computer. Looking for bad news on Iraq has not bee fruitful and today in the Washington Post there is mention that Al-Sadr is keeping a low profile, his irregulars have taken off their black uniforms and the guns are out of sight.

I am anxious about Sadr. Machiavelli 500 years ago had the answer for this problem--"crush you enemy totally." I think this problem is the same problem Bush I and Scowcroft had with Saddam in Gulf War I--they let the bastard go and he came back to bite them.

Machiavelli: "A viper crushed beneath your foot but left alive, will rear up and bite you with a double dose of venom...For it must be noted, that men must be caressed or else annihilated; they will revenge themselves for small injuries, but cannot do so for great ones; the injury therefore that we do to a man must be such that we need not fear his vengeance." Niccolo' Machiavelli, 1469-1527.

Unless we have bribed him with money, power or fame, he is bound to return to "bite" us or whoever remains in our place. Caress him perhaps but our stay is temporary. The best alternative would be his leaving to Iran or elsewhere with a consequent loss of respect and power.

Of more importance is whether the State of Iraq exists or will exist. Using Jorge Ortega y Gasset again from The Revolt Of The Masses the challenge is clear.

"...The state is always, whatever be its form--primitive, ancient, medieval, modern--an invitation by one group of men to other human groups to carry out some enterprise in common...Since it is a plan of common enterprise, its reality is purely dynamic; something to be done, the community in action. On this view everyone forms a part of the state, is a political subject who gives his support to the enterprise; race, blood, geographical position, social class [religion too]--all these take secondary place..."

Ortega y Gasset points out the state is not a function of the past or even a common people or boundaries. A state is a state when it has a common purpose all can participate in. This is what is hard to pin down in Iraq. Everyone, I mean everyone [Bathists you bet also] needs to belong to a greater purpose. The Ottomans, Brits and Bathists may have played a part in developing Iraq but only a common purpose will permit it to function and survive. That is the big, big challenge for the Iraqis and a challenge we must help where we can regardless of our personal political preferences.

Note to self:
RE: Sunday Morning Talk Show Mental Health Stragedy:

Only watch the talk shows where Vice President Dick Cheney is featured, then switch to cartoons (or, in playoff season, ESPN).

After just watching the VP on FNS, I've reaffirmed my opinion that the only reason for our 2006 election loses was a Republican failure to counter the RAT Propaganda Machine's focused attack on this administration's War on Terror.

If Dick Cheney alone had been booked opposite every one of the RAT talking heads preceding the election, we would have won the election, and wouldn't be in our current position of possibly losing the war on terror due to lack of political will.

While it's the correct position to "do the right thing", not "follow public opinion polls", and "think long term in to war on terror", it's also true that elections are won or lost by public opinion.

Therefore, the strategy for winning elections is not to stray from the correct political positions, it is to change public opinion about those positions.

Dick Cheney could have done that single handedly.

It may seem like a waste to assign someone as talented as Dick Cheney to the task, but what's more important than having the nation behind you in a time of war, and having the political power at home to win that war?

I'm not saying he should have appeared on shows like Okra, et al, that should be a mandatory requirement for Freshmen Congressional Republicans.

But he should have been out there on every other media venue of consequence, stating the facts, calmly informing the sheeple of the dangers of losing this war, in his logical, levelheaded way.

Oops, Chris Berman is screaming, yet again, on my TV, gotta find the remote and switch to cartoons before I throw a brick at his fat yap.

Couple of points regarding the FreeRepublic Sunday Morning Talk Show Thread HERE.

First, we’re sure things will start picking up what with the holidays behind us and the 2008 election looming. For now, the normal Sunday thread is a bit barer than normal thus the pickings are slimmer. I culled ten posters but frankly everyone who took the time to post on this past week’s thread should win a prize.

Second, I will including this post, since I write it in HTML already and won’t have to repeat the work, in full on my own Blog. Two or three people a day read my Blog so who knows what kind of traffic we’ll bring in.

Got the idea from Phssssstpok, forgive if I’ve misspelled.

Now on to the winnahs!

Two great pics on this week’s thread and coming in at number ten, we have a tie.

#10-TIE-ElPatriota

Nails Chuck Hagel pictorially

-----------

johnny7

Revealing pic of Barack Obama. Heh.

------------

#9-Morgan in Denver

As always, Morgan starts things off with quick and dirty analysis of current Iraq situation. And continues on with more excellent observations on the War on Terror.

-------

#8-AliVeritas

Freepers are great at compiling links to current events and AliVeritas gives us an excellent link list on Muslims and Barack

-------------

#7-redgirlinabluestate

Okay, I love this user name. Hey, I can relate, living in Delaware with Joe “Hairplugs” Biden and everything.

Not to mention this great post on the problems caused by an administration that fails to fight back against Media lies.

------------

#6-ANITA

As always, Anita keeps us informed with her Media Nuggets.

Then Anita continues informing us with this intriguing post on General Patreus and Bill Frist.

------

#5-benjaminjjones

I snuck this gem in as kind of a surprise.

Benjamin amuses us with a post on surviving the Sunday talk shows with sanity.

Here’s the real sneak….Ben whispers a post late in the thread on football, thinking no one was still reading. Heh.On Joe Theisman.

More of Benjaminjjones wisdom HERE

------

#4-PerConPat

Great analysis of war and how we USED TO WIN WARS

Here PerConPat gives an intriguing, but not necessarily comforting, thought on the possible result of our culture’s obsession on abortion on demand.

Read more of PerConPat’s wisdom HERE

---------

#3-Laverne

Laverne gives us great insight on Joe Lieberman AND a great story about taking on Drudge

More wisdom from Laverne HERE

------------------

#2-Arizona Carolyn

AC has a bunch of Conservative insights this week, beginning with an insight on Webb of Virginia.

AC moves on to some thoughts on blow-dried, old-school Trent Lott.

And this gem on the problems of welfare and government giveaways.

More wisdom from AC HERE

#1-Carolinamom

The winner this week is a lady. In fact, the top three this week, I THINK, are female.

CM begins by making an unarguable point

Then CM treats us to some Nancy Pelosi insight.

The best of all is CM’s post on wives and presidential contenders.

Heh. The above post was so good it even got an on-the-spot, ad hoc award HERE

Nothing like personal experience to enlighten and in this post CM tells us her experience in this country’s mixed up education system.

More Carolinamom wisdom HERE
