Iraq's Vice President Commends Bush Administration's New Strategy for Iraq

WASHINGTON, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/

Iraqi Tawafuq (accordance) Front has released the following statement through its representative Focus on Advocacy & Advancement of International Relations (FAAIR).

His Excellency Vice President of the Republic of Iraq Mr. Tariq Al-Hashemi declared today his approval of President George W. Bush's new strategy and proposed call for additional US troops in Iraq, announced on Wednesday, January 8, 2007.

His Excellency Mr. Al-Hashemi noted the President Bush's new strategy on Iraq is markedly different from other strategies implemented so far and that the request for additional US troops will greatly aid in stabilizing the current security situation in Iraq, particularly in Baghdad.

The new position is a responsible one that demonstrates the Bush administration's genuine interest in helping the Iraqi people as they finish building their national armed services and regain regional stability.

This conditional American support is a good incentive for the Iraqi government to adopt a new, balanced security policy regardless of sectarian, ethnic and religious backgrounds, as well as not to give a safe haven or political cover for the militia, terrorists and outlaws.

His Excellency Mr. Al-Hashemi also commended the Bush administration's progression towards strategies that do not rely exclusively on military means and include the review of economic, political and security aspects of the situation in Iraq.

The new Iraq strategy also pointed out critical political issues such as the Iraq constitution, deba'athification law and reconciliation which the Iraqi government and Council of Representatives should hasten to settle with a genuine participation of all Iraqi parties in the political process.

Though there is no instant solution for the conditions in Iraq, His Excellency Mr. Al-Hashemi hopes this new strategy is a positive step in breaking the current political stalemate.

However, His Excellency Mr. Al-Hashemi noted that the new Iraq strategy does not address essential issues such as plans to correct the building of the Iraqi armed services, including the removal of militia and criminal elements, as well as concerns of Baghdad residents who have been terrorized by militias and made victims of unprecedented ethnic cleansing.

Furthermore, he felt it is too early to announce a deadline of November 2007 for the Iraqi government to assume the security operations for all Iraqi provinces before an appropriate training plan for the Iraqi national armed services has been developed and implemented. It was also hoped that the new Iraq strategy would have more clearly differentiated between terrorists and national armed resistance members and avoided interchanging the two groups, however, His Excellency Mr. Al-Hashemi appreciated the clarification of the strategy's final objective through the recent testimony given by Secretary Rice and Secretary Gates to the United States Congress.

To me this is sort of like a football game in the fourth quarter. The GOP is down by three late in the game but, they have the ball and they are driving. The Dems are nervously pacing on the sideling wondering how in the hell to stop the Bush team. Stop the funding?...Symbolic vote of no confidence?...Blare 'Bush is an idiot' across America's newspapers?...

I have one problem with this. THE DEMOCRATS ARE AMERICANS TOO. WHY IN THE HELL ARE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE LINE???
Sorry Dems, this is time to man up.

The world needs freedom because it guarantees the free flow of goods, ideas, capital, and oil. And, by the way, it also helps oppressed peoples such as the Iraqi's.

Keep driving the football President Bush.

This guy is Sunni Muslim and has lost a brother and sister in sectarian violence. His part is the 3rd larges in govt - behind the Shiite and Kurdish alliances. This is an interesting statement given that Sunni terrorists have been the most targeted over the past few weeks.
