The point of my post is not WHY. It is WHO.
WHO are you really voting for?
You must face the reality of your own vote... and its consequences.
YOU control your own vote. No one else does.
Vote 3rd party or sit out the election and you are placing a de facto vote for hillary clinton.

Mia,
I think an increasing problem with social values voters (or religious values voters) is a very poor grasp of exactly what they want, and exactly how likely those goals are to be realized, and exactly what strategies they should employ to realize their goals.
To be fair, this is a problem shared by many voters all around the political spectrum these days - little regard for the realities of the political landscape.
Pro life is one of my favorite issues, since I am pro life but I consider the pro life leadership for the last 35 years to be so inept and impossibly bad that they have been beaten back on almost every front and seem oblivious to it. The original conservative position on abortion, as I understood it, was that the issue should be left up to the states. As it stands now, if the issue is left up to the states, no state would outlaw first trimester abortion, regardless of the crystal ball gazing of the most hardened pro life advocate.
This is just one example, but illustrates the larger point. Exactly what do pro lifers in 2007 want, given that the political landscape is inhospitable to them. Originally against the tyranny of Roe, do they advocate their own brand of tyranny?
I see very little in the way of specifics from this type of voter. The result is a voter that is immature and motivated more by emotion rather than reason (tempered by a moral code, of course).
What's the pro life agenda when 1/2 the electorate (or more) strongly wants them to go to hell, 1/4 is with them, and 1/4 doesn't care much? They can't reasonably expect advancement on their issues?
Being against same sex marriage is one thing, but that's not enough for some. They have a nebulous animus to be against gays themselves. That's fine, it's a free country, but most people don't care enough about gays to hate them. That being said, most people don't want to change the definition of marriage to accommodate same sex marriage. But further, more people than not don't think a person should lose their job just because an employee is gay. This ticks some members of our constituency off, but they are an angry small minority not convincing anybody of anything.
So what exactly do social conservatives want that can be achieved? Without a real, clear evaluation, they are at a natural disadvantage.

I agree. I will never vote for McScream. I am now so upset with Bush that I cannot see straight. He has totally let us down. In my book, Bush rates an A grade on fighting the murderers of peace, but an F on most everything else. He rates a WXYZ on illegals.

All you care about is money?Um, no, I care about how the message of basic, common-sense conservatism-the one of less government intrusion into our personal lives, peace through strength, and cutting spending and taxes-you know, the kind of message that used to win the Republicans elections-has been hijacked by the goofball fringe who care more about keeping those durn queers from marrying, saving brain-dead vegetables and backing unelectable fringe candidates than they do about common sense.

You keep lobbying for the Democrats to hold power in this country. Take your case to Reverend Al. He'll listen to you.

saving brain-dead vegetables Since when is killing someone without a trial by a jury of their peers considered "conservative" or libertarian???
Allowing one black robed tyrant ordering death is fascism...

Not enough social liberalism for you, is there?
Your kind has choked the life out of this country.

You are turning my post on its head. My post is a discussion of a hypothetical matchup; nothing more.

common-sense conservatism-the one of less government intrusion into our personal lives, ...The marriage license is a government intrusion into religion and into my wallet...
Marriage is a public act and if you want your privacy, don't make your perversions public and keep them out of the public schools...
But, since liberals like you can't agree to that, people want something done... The Mark Foley strategy isn't winning in case you did not notice... AND BALLOT INITIATIVES PROVE IT...

Hypotheticals are not my concern, ISSUES are...

It was between the two families and the politicians shouldn't have stuck their noses in it. Fixiating on terri Schiavo did hurt conservatism-and FR.

Actually, it is the RINOs caving in to the liberals that put the Democrats in power. A pox on them both...
I'm an atheist, but that does not mean I have a myopic hatred of Christians or the Judaic culture that made this country what it is. And throwing dung on the religious social conservatives ain't gonna win their votes or mine either...

LIt was between the two families and the politicians shouldn't have stuck their noses in it.No it was not. It was between one person and their life, something the government may not deprive you of without a trial by a jury of your peers...

We don't elect 'issues.' We elect people.
Place your de facto vote for hillary clinton and let's see which of your 'issues' are realized.
