Al-Qaeda predicts US defeat

Dubai - The Iraqi branch of al-Qaeda predicted on Saturday the "defeat" of US military forces in Iraq, in its first reaction to US President George W Bush's new strategy to end the ongoing conflict.

In a statement posted on the internet, it said Bush's change of tack - including 21 500 troop reinforcements - "is only a prelude to news of a defeat and a flight from the hell of Iraq".

"Increasing the number of troops will not in any way change the nature of the battle," added the statement, signed by "a spokesperson of the Islamic State of Iraq" - an entity declared by al-Qaeda in Iraq in mid-October.

"Reinforcements in the past had no effect and did not swing the battle in favour of the Crusaders."

The statement was seen by AFP on Islamist websites, but there was no way to firmly establish its authenticity.

Al-Qaeda is the global Islamist militant network led by Osama bin Laden.

It is held responsible for the September 11 attacks in the United States in 2001 that prompted the Bush administration to launch its transnational "war on terror".

In a recording posted on the internet in mid-December, the head of an al-Qaeda-dominated group in Iraq offered to give US troops a month to withdraw without fear of attack.

Saturday's statement said the Islamic State of Iraq was "at its best and in good control of the situation".

It continued: "The media frenzy surrounding the security plan for Baghdad and the new Bush strategy will change nothing..."

"The enemy is trying to save face at least in Baghdad; the security plans for Iraq from now on are limited to Baghdad."

Bush's new Iraq strategy, announced on Wednesday in Washington, centres on putting more US troops in Baghdad to wrestle control of the capital from a stubborn insurgency.

It also calls for the Shi'ite-dominated Iraqi government to assume control of all Iraqi provinces by November or risk losing US support.

Prime Minister Nuri al-Malaki has separately announced a security plan for Baghdad, which is expected to be implemented in the coming days.

Don't the democrats ever get embarrassed that there is no distinction between what they say and what AQ says?

No. Next question.

Well, lets see...

A congress full of jellyfish and traitors

A media that aids and abets our enemies at every turn

A large portion of the citizenry that fails (refuses) to grasp the larger war, who we are fighting against and the stakes involved

A politically correct administration with respect to our enemies, both foreign and domestic

Failure to secure our borders (especially at a time of war) and enforce existing immigration law

A resource starved military attempting to fight a protracted global war that has had its force structure eroded for the past 15 years

and an ROE annex in Iraq the size of the NYC phone book that has limited our troops ability to bring death and destruction on our enemies

Yeah, I'd say the trend line depicts a defeat, given all that.

I was thinking the same thing Laverne. You can substitute the words DNC for AQ and there is no diff. If the democrats *had* any shame in the cores of their being - they would find a spideyhole to dwell in.

As much as I hate to say it, I'm going to have to agree with them. I'd like to see the US crush them but it will never happen. The media, squeamish lefties, and RINOs worried about reelection in 08 will not allow it. Our country, sans most on this site, no longer has the will to win. AQ might not have the best military tactics but they're smart enough to learn from history. We pulled out of Vietnam, did nothing in Iran in 79, did not retaliate in Lebanon in 83, ran in Somalia etc. They know that just have to stick it out and wait for us to fold up from within.

We will put in 25k more troops, hang around for a few more months, and then pull out. Our leaders will justify this by saying that a US military presence is no longer needed as the Iraqis are well trained and can secure their country.

Before I get flamed, please realize that this is not a slander on our military but frustration aimed at the left, media, and our leadership.

One day our children's children's children will be studying history and some will ask why did America let this happen?

All I heard were the Litvenenko connections and that Russia's having a Chechen problem of their own now.

No, given the current trend, our children's children's children will be studying the Koran and blessing Allah for delivering them from the great satan.

I'm not going to flame you, because I understand your point, and your frustration. I'll just say this: if push comes to shove - and trust me, friend - it will - even most of the Idiotarians amongst us will understand the need to kill the enemy before they kill us. And even if they don't - there are millions of us ready, willing and able to take up arms. The Islamicists think they've got us confused and demoralized, which makes future aggression more likely. But they have no idea how fiercely we'll fight when it is our neighborhoods, our homes, and our families that are threatened.

They won't defeat our forces.

They are defeating our politicians and the voting public.

I'm right there with you in the group of "millions...ready, willing and able to take up arms." My frustration is that it will eventually have to come to that point where we are fighting in our neighborhoods before this country wakes up to the threat it's facing. It would be so much easier for everyone if we could just handle this problem now before it becomes a life and death struggle in our own backyards.

I have wondered the same thing many times myself. It should occur to any American who loves his country that if an enemy is saying the same thing as he is saying...well...maybe he ought to quit saying it.....lest other Americans start suspecting him of being some kind of traitor.

If enough Americans start recognizing the similarity of Al Q...and Murtha, Pelosi, et al, maybe they will do something about it.....

then again, maybe not...seems like these days down is up, and up is down....traitors are good guys and those who wish protection for America are bad....

crazy, ain't it??

No, given the current trend, our children's children's children will be studying the Koran and blessing Allah for delivering them from the great satan.

Assuming they survive.

It would be so much easier for everyone if we could just handle this problem now before it becomes a life and death struggle in our own backyards.

Of course it would. But that presupposes a consensus that we are facing a mortal threat. Right now, most Republicans appear to recognize that we face a long-term intergenerational threat to our freedom and our way of life. Most Democrats, though, appear to think that our Islamicist adversaries hate us for reasons related only to our behavior, and that they may be successfully appeased through compromise and negotiation. Fools, as much as fanatics, make war inevitable.
