ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today presidential
candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney toured the Shooting,
Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show which is run by the firearm
industry's trade association, the National Shooting Sports Foundation
(NSSF).
Gov. Romney's tour of the SHOT Show underscores the continued
importance of the sportsmen's and gun owners' vote in national elections.
Sportsmen and gun owners have proven to be a vital and influential voting
bloc in the past two presidential elections and in each of the
congressional elections since 2000.
"Americans should have the right to own and possess firearms as
guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution," said Governor Romney. "I'm proud
to be among the many decent, law-abiding men and women who safely use
firearms."
During his tour of the SHOT Show the governor stopped by the booths of
several major firearms and ammunition manufacturers, including Smith &
Wesson, Remington Arms, Sturm, Ruger and Winchester. As he walked the show
floor Romney also stopped to speak with many industry attendees and
exhibitors.
"As our industry's trade association the National Shooting Sports
Foundation welcomes Gov. Romney's interest in learning more about a proud
and responsible American industry and the wide variety of products that our
members manufacture and lawfully sell to law-abiding Americans for hunting,
recreational shooting and personal protection," said Lawrence G. Keane,
NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel, who toured the show with
the governor. "Our industry plays a vital role in protecting the Second
Amendment and America's national security, both at home and abroad, by
providing America's armed forces and federal, state and local law
enforcement agencies with the tools they need to keep us safe and free."
The SHOT Show is the largest trade show of its kind in the world and
27th largest trade show in the United States. The SHOT Show is also among
the fastest growing trade shows in America. More than 40,000 exhibitors and
attendees from the trade from all 50 states and 75 foreign countries attend
the show, which covers a record-setting 655,000 square feet of exhibit
space. The show is not open to the general public. The SHOT Show generates
approximately $50 million dollars of economic activity for the local
economy in just four days.

And Giuliani nowhere to be found. Well good for Mitt, although I suspect more "posturing" on his part.

Try driving through MA with a licensed (out of state) handgun and see where you'll wind up.

"I'm proud to be among the many decent, law-abiding men and women who safely use firearms."--Mitt Romney One small detail: he doesn't own a gun.
Romney said he once owned a pistol, but doesn't own any firearms now.

It legal, as long as it is the trunk, not loaded, separated from the ammo, and you are passing through. Don't stop and stay overnight

Guy is trying to too hard to impress gun owners. What's he going to do next? Go on a dove hunt like Jean Kerry?

All the Romney-haters gonna stay home and sulk on election day '08, like the "true conservatives" who did in Nov '06 enabling Stretch Pelosi grab the House gavel?

I'm wait and see on Romney but to my knowledge he's never said anything negative about MA's repressive gun regulations and he also made a statement a while back supportive of the state's regulations on airguns.
To: petercooper
No, we're going to work to get a true conservative on the ticket instead of settling for these lying RINO's. Then if we have to and there is no other choice, we'll vote against the gun grabbing anti-rights dem part on election day.

None of the three Republican leaders so far have a good record on 2A issues. Guiliani's functionally a Democrat on the issue, and McCain is nearly as bad.
Romney didn't do anything to roll back Mass's insane gun laws as Governor. He would be, at best, as good as W, and that's really not very good. But Guiliani is an outright gun-grabber. And McCain not only is against people owning guns, he's against them forming pro-gun organizations and telling them about it.
If this is as deep as the Republican bench gets, get used to saying "President Clinton." She will make (as her husband did with some success, and Kerry did ineffectually) a transparent and phony attempt to reassure gun owners, and a few of them will be fooled.
On RKBA issues -- which translates to volunteers in the election pretty directly -- Romney has his problems, but he's the least weak of the big three. I could probably vote for him. I would have a hard time voting for Rudy, and I don't think I could vote for the Manchurian Candidate at all. But that's just me.
