how in the he## does the prosecutor remove himself from the case? who takes over? and when the next guy drops all charges what happens to Nifong for ruining these kids lives?

Personally I think their choice of 'entertainment' for the evening does not leave them totally blameless for what happened next. But they did not deserve this, and Nifong should be jailed for it.

There is provision in NC law that if a prosecutor has a conflict of interest in a case he can recuse himself and turn it over to the State AG who may choose to handle the case himself or turn it over to a special prosecutor. Nifong's about 8 months too late doing this.
