I mentioned last week that she will be looking forward to working with the Republicans much more than her dems.

Pelosi had said nixing tax cuts for half-million-dollar earners "might be more important to the American people than ignoring the educational and health needs of America's children."

Tax hikes "for the children"! What a magnificent idea!

I don't trust ANY politician claiming their policies are "for the children". They almost always do much more harm to "the children" than good.

When Nancy Pelosi has an easier time keeping Republicans under control than Democrats, you know there's something messed up about our party.

>But Rangel, whose committee handles tax policy, dismissed Pelosi's idea as unlikely to happen, since the speaker didn't bother to vet it with him in advance. <

Touchy little fella, isn't he?

When your opponent is in the process of destroying himself, get out of his way.

This is showing me even more, though, that if the Republicans win back the House in 2 years, it won't make the slightest difference, because they love Madame Nancy's agenda just as much as the Democrats!

Rangel, who took over the powerful Ways and Means Committee after 36 years in Congress, smacked down the idea Pelosi raised on Sunday of repealing tax cuts for those earning more than $500,000 per year.

Charlie Rangel, supply sider!

Rangel is a strange breed of liberal Democratic cat. With respect to taxes

From the article:

In another swat at Pelosi, Rangel sided with Republican lawmakers by opposing his leadership's high-profile push to jam through legislation in the first 100 hours of Democratic rule.

Pelosi decreed that none of the early legislation would go through the normal committee process, hoping to keep her party in lockstep to enact key agenda items and boost her own and the party's national image.

"I don't think the chairman [Rangel] likes the idea that there were no hearings on a lot of the bills that were coming up in the 100 hours," said the Democratic lawmaker.

Sources say Rangel went to Pelosi urging that his committee be allowed to review legislation allowing the feds to negotiate with drug companies over prices and taking away tax breaks for big oil companies - but she refused.

Rangel got around her by setting up closed-door committee forums that were essentially hearings anyway.

Yesterday, the Republican and Democratic committee members met with health experts on the drug bill, and an energy meeting is set for next week.

Not true. Select you battles wisely. The Republicans shouldn't waste political capital on battles they are guaranteed to win or to lose. Save you ammunition for the close ones.

Making a big fuss resisting the inevitable makes sense if the fuss buys you good publicity. Republican resistance will be portraited negatively in the LSM, so it pays them to pick their spots.

Are they going to provide to US that which they demanded of VP Cheney?

Quick, does anybody know if it is in the bylaws of the House, that the Speaker can be be removed from the position for "malfeasance of office"?

Seems like a rule was invoked fairly recently that effectively forced the resignation of another Speaker, for "ethical conflicts".

We might yet see "Queen Bee Nanacy" go under the bus.

Rangel has much more seniority than Grandma Nancy. So why didn't HE run for speaker? If he had and lost then he would have been screaming racism.

If you're speaking of the list, they won't give squat. I betcha.

But Rangel, that guy sometimes surprises me . . . pleasantly so. And then, he proves himself to be what he is . . . a liberl Democrat.
