I'm a Republican and I'm not worried.

which would make it hard to finance the troop surge in Iraq without beefing up the military as a whole. So what's the downside?

Lowry is such a whiney little bitch.
If the Rats vote to create strict standards for readiness, they will also be on the hook to fund these proposals.
I hope they do this, it will mean increasing the size of the military which is far too small for current tasks and threats.

"set strict standards for readiness..."
According to the Clintonistas, we are ready to fight two major wars in different parts of the globe. And that was before Bush expanded the size of the military.

Here, Lowry shows his ignorance of the military.
I guess he assumes that our services will support anyone who throws money at them, and dont know the difference between actual support and shameless pandering.
Lowry needs to learn that the military know who their friends are, and there is nothing to fear.

It'll all be moot after Mahmoud detonates that nuke from a container ship off New York Harbor.
At least then we'll get to finish the job once and for all.

The underlying article clearly indicates that the 'rats want the War to be a failure so that they can become the dominant political party. Hence their de facto alliance with the enemy who is killing our soldiers. Dead American soldiers will translate into 'rat seats in Congress and a 'rat President.
If they actually cared about our troops at all, then they would either support the war or cutoff funding. Neither helps them politically, so they are adopting a strategy of isolating the President and doing everything possible to make sure we lose.

Before Traitor Murtha and Crew get and legislation proposed, let alone passed, the troop levels in Iraq will already reflect the surge. The militias will be disarmed by threat or by actual combat. Baghdad will be under martial law. Sectarian violence will have waned. There will still be the daily suicide bomber to fill the television screens but the "civil war" will be gone.
Let the Dimocraps propose strengthening the military overall. Then let the Republicans outbid them. Let's take turns until we're back to 18 active divisions. Let's see which party's base abandons them first. Some of the Democrats were elected on "bring the troops home" platforms. How will the people that voted for them support boosting the military? Not very well if at all.
To: clamper1797
We will have to strike before a week or so passes or the "enemy within" will start to retreat again, like they did after 911.
To: slowhand520
And how much time did Mr. Lowry spend bashing the President and the republicans for the past year or so?
