House Republicans yesterday declared "something fishy" about the major tuna company in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco district being exempted from the minimum-wage increase that Democrats approved this week.

Some Republicans who voted in favor of the minimum-wage bill were particularly irritated to learn yesterday -- after their vote -- that the legislation did not include American Samoa. "I was troubled to learn of this exemption," said Rep. Mark Steven Kirk, Illinois Republican. "My intention was to raise the minimum wage for everyone. We shouldn't permit any special favors or exemptions that are not widely discussed in Congress. This is the problem with rushing legislation through without full debate." DO you bother to EVER read the legislation before you before your stupid knee jerk voting habits, congressman?

But if a tree falls in a forest does it make a noise? It won't if the MSM doesn't cover it on the front page, or if networks don't include it in their menus. ....the speaker has not been lobbied in any way by StarKist or Del Monte. And this makes it all right? Question: Has Pelosi received contributions from these companies in the paste.

Okay, so she hasn't been lobbied by them.
Fine. Let's say she hasn't.
Just answer why there are exemptions to the "desperately needed" bill.

Don't kid yourself. This is business as usual. No one will go to jail or even face the slightest disciplinary action.

Pelosi is a racist. She is trying to hold back Samoans from making a decent wage and getting ahead.

During the House debate yesterday on stem-cell research, Mr. McHenry raised a parliamentary inquiry as to whether an amendment could be offered that would exempt American Samoa from stem-cell research, "just as it was for the minimum-wage bill."

Many "Republicans" voted for this flawed legislation. Their complaint about the exemption for American Samoa seems a bit dubious. Why did they not raise this issue when the bill came up for a vote?

Could the President use this as an excuse to veto the legislation? Not that he will, mind you, because it wouldn't be very "new toneish".

Some Republicans who voted in favor of the minimum-wage bill were particularly irritated to learn yesterday -- after their vote -- that the legislation did not include American Samoa. Gosh, 80 Republicans voted "yes" on a bill they didn't actually read. I'm shocked.

I believe Heinz actually owns the Tuna plant in Pago Pago, and most of the people that work in it are Western Samoans who are shipped over for three month stints. They really mess up the place with garbage they just chuck on the street. The wages there are such that the American Samoans turn their noses up at the minimum wage offered at the plant. Somewhere in the order of 6-9 thousand of the American Samoan are working for the US Government in one form or another.

Has she attempted to defend this? Isn't there going to be a lawsuit with some other manufacturer, perhaps those who can smoked oysters, claiming equal protection?
